Dhoul (2014) defines operations management as “chiefly concerned with planning, organizing and supervising in the contexts of production, manufacturing or the provision of services.” Dhoul (2014) continues by describing this particular type of management as “delivery-focused.” This focus allows managers to look at the relationship between inputs and outputs with inputs varying from staff to materials necessary for work. Duties or positions that may fall into this line of work according to Dhoul (2014) are “procurement (acquiring goods or services from external sources), managing relations with those involved in processes, and improving a company’s sustainability with regard to its use of resources.”

... prior knowledge of operations management has immensely improved after researching more about this system of management. Despite the different ways operations management can be defined, the main idea is that this management system is responsible for all the systems including the planning, organizing, and supervising of all areas of the product or service that the company is supplying to its consumers. I have been a part of three exemplary organizations that use operations management successfully including a car dealership, School Specialty, and OhioHealth. I hope to learn more about quality control and forecasting throughout this course this semester and various other areas of operations management that I did not know before. I look forward to the learning more about operations management this semester and the information that I can apply to my future career someday.
