Operations Management is the term we use for the management of the resources necessary to produce and deliver the products and services required by customers. These resources include labor, materials and also capital equipment. Operations management include inventory management, quality control, production scheduling, and follow-up services. For example in clothing factories they transform raw materials, fabric, thread, and other resources into pants, shirts, skirts, and dresses in order for people to have clothing (Bethel University, 2011). This is called the process of fabrication and assembly.
Operations management is about the way an organization produce goods and services. Everything has been produced in some sort of way. An operation can also be considered as a transformation process: from what you wear, eat, sit on, things you use on a daily basis, and even what you read. Operations are considered a transformation process because they convert a set of resources known as inputs into services and goods called outputs. Everything comes to you because of the operations managers who organized its production. Just think about every book you borrow from the library, the treatment you receive at the hospital, every service you expect when you go to a mechanic to every lecture you attend at a university. Everything is a result of being produced. In college or universities, operations management takes inputs such as information, professors, supplies, buildings, offices, and computer systems and creates services that transform students into educated people. This is done through a process called education and because of these operations we have successful knowledgeable people (Bethel University, 2011).

Many companies face challenges to make their products stand out above other products due to the growing economy. There are so many different products available and brands making it difficult in today’s world especially with different markets developing daily, and expanding product portfolios from the current businesses. Operations management focuses on managing the processes of producing and distributing products and services. Operations activities often include but are not limited to product creation, development, production and distribution. It deals with all operations within the organization. Without operations management and great customer service a company would not be successful nor would they be in operation.
