Introduction
Operational management is an activity on the development, use and improvement of business processes to the production of major products and services. Operating activities specifies the implementation of any functions of the organization, focusing on content and targeted action sequences associated with the production of a particular product or services.
Operating strategy can be considered as part of the overall planning process, ensuring compliance of operational tasks with tasks of broader organizational structure. Since the problem of a wider organizational structure over time tend to vary, the operating strategy also needs to be developed taking into account possible future changes in the needs of the buyers of company’s products. Operational capabilities of any firm can be regarded as a portfolio of opportunities that best suited to adapt to the changing needs of firm’s clients with respect to its products and / or services.
The objectives of the assignment are:
 To illustrate and give examples of some strategic challenges facing operations managers in today’s business environment.
 To recognize the role of operations management and discuss the key challenges posed in operations management.
 To discuss the purpose of performance measurement and how it can be undertaken.
Procter & Gamble Co. was chosen for assignment completion because it is an American organization considered as one of the world’s crucial customer merchandises’ producer and provider. Its position on Fortune 500 is 28th but one of the chief U.S. businesses as regards incomes and market capitalization.
