The information processing theory explains that the material that we come across travels from sensory storage to working memory and lastly to long term memory (Snowman & McCown, 2015) The long term memory is a permanent storehouse of knowledge, so once the material has reached that region, students can then easily recall and retrieve the familiar information (Snowman & McCown, 2015). This concept is different from the operant condition theory in several ways. For example, operant condition theory is more of a behavioral learning method that’s focused on rewards from the environment and constant reinforcement to help strengthen positive behavior (Snowman & McCown, 2015).
If I were to explain the differences to a parent I would explain that operant conditioning is typically a type of learning where behavior is controlled by consequences (Miller, 2011). Then I will further explain that the main key concepts in operant conditioning is positive reinforcement, negative reinforcement, positive punishment and negative punishment (Miller, 2011). Giving examples of each will also help clarify to the parents exactly how reinforcement and punishment help control behavior. For example, positive reinforcement is giving something pleasant after a behavior (Miller, 2011); for instance, if you go to work every day, then you will get a paycheck. For this reason millions of people work every day even if they don’t like their job. The action, which is going to work, is being rewarded by the paycheck, which results to more and more people performing this behavior. Negative reinforcement is taking something unpleasant due to favorable behavior (Miller, 2011), for example, during my undergrad one of my professors dropped the lowest exam grade if you ...

Whole operant conditioning theory is also an effective and important concepts. It teaches students about positive behavior and teaches the educators about the importance of helping their students strengthen these positive behavior, which can be done by constant reinforcements and rewards or punishments that will effectively help students of all ages recognize their right from their wrong (Miller, 2011). For example, as a biology teacher if I assign a paper I will provide positive reinforcement to those who are doing exceedingly well with this assignment, and for those who need more assistance, I will also provide the proper reinforcement that will help them with those skills, while also encouraging them to keep practicing that skill
