Online vs. Traditional Shopping The verb to shop is defined as: to visit places where goods are sold in order to look at and buy things. As the internet usage is increasing, the way to shop is changing. Before, people had no choice but to visit the places where they wanted to but goods. Now, many people have begun to use online shopping as an alternative to traditional shopping, as defined above. Perceptions of online shopping differ between people though. If the person is a frequent technology user, his/her perception will be favorable. Also, if the person has a higher level of education and a higher income, his/her perception will also be favorable. When it comes to the variety of stores, more selection of goods, wait time for receiving items, and comparing prices, online shopping has become the better competitor to the traditional style of shopping. It is easy to compare prices while shopping online. A person simply has to open another tab to search for a better price. For example, a sweater on website A costs ten dollars. Betty does not have that much to spend so she needs to find a better price. By opening another tab and searching for the same sweater, she finds it on website B for five dollars. Bob is traditional shopping and finds a pair of pants for twenty dollars. He too does not have that much to spend so he needs to find the pants for a better price. In order to find the pants for a cheaper price he must travel from store to store searching for the same pair of pants. In the end, he may not even find the same pair of pants because his local shopping mall does not have a big variety of stores.
