Online Class and Traditional Class
As technology advances and student enrollments increase, many universities are exploring the use of web-based instruction. The options range from the use of web-based applications in traditional classrooms to full-blown online courses in which there is no face-to-face contact. What are the differences between online class and face-to-face classes? The differences between a traditional class and an online class are remarkable. Both types of learning require instruction from teachers, and have comparable methods of assessment, although, they differ from one another in terms of scheduling, learning processes, and communication. So, between online

While many online courses integrate some form of physical interaction in hybrid courses, courses that are entirely online do not have a face to face component. While students may see your professor on video, they can’t raise their hand and get immediate feedback or lean over to their classmate and ask a question. Also, the level of interaction with their peers isn’t the same in online learning as it is in traditional classroom atmospheres. With face to face interaction they develop lifelong contacts, memories and experiences that are harder to foster in an online environment. These types of interactions humanize the educational experience in a way that online learning does not. People are comfortable with a traditional classroom structure and sometimes don’t want to deviate from it. If we have a question for our teacher we can raise our hand in class and get an immediate answer. If we turn in a paper and have a question about grades or comments, we can usually talk to the teacher and analyze body language. In online learning, it is sometimes harder to gauge effective communication and we may have to wait until our teacher reads their email. While many students relish new advances in technology, others aren’t as comfortable with technology and prefer paper and pencil based methods. For these students, the familiarity and comfort of traditional class is an …show more content…
Students learn more things in school like cooperation, punctuality and discipline. It offer more flexibility to students. It also helps students learn more skills about leadership when they have a representation in front of class and meet many new friends and new teachers. If they have struggle on anything, they can go to see their friends or teacher for help. Not like the online class, if they have something to ask their professor, they need to make an appointment. Online class isn’t good on one thing that they can’t make friends like traditional class, they cannot ask their friends. My opinion is the students should take traditional class instead online class. If they cannot take traditional class for some reason, then they can take online class, but it’s not always a good idea for student to improve their knowledge because i have seen many students that always get a good grade when they took online class, but they are not really know about their lesson. Why did they get good grade? Because in online classes, every time they have test, they can open notebook, textbook or just research on google and find the answer for those question on the test and then just rewrite it in their own words. They are not really care about it. They don’t need to understand. They just care about get a good grade on that class and they
An area of great contrast between the two forms of education regards the student experience. For example, students may enjoy taking tests or listening to lectures in the comfort of their own home. However, this poses a major disadvantage of not being able to ask questions as they naturally arise. An online student may have to wait around for their instructor to respond to an email, whereas being present in a classroom permits questions to be asked and answered on the spot. Another advantage of attending a brick-and-mortar college is having access to classmates for study groups or help with homework. After reading several students opinions on their online classes, I have come to realize the overall expe...
Getting your education is a very important thing to do in your lifetime, and there are many ways to do so. The two most common ways of getting your degree, whether it be a high school diploma or a college degree, are online courses and traditional courses, which is face to face, classroom classes. According to the results of a new national research study (Karambelas 1), 78% of more than 1000 students surveyed still believe that it is easier to learn in a classroom, in other words taking traditional courses. So, when taking online courses rather than traditional courses, you should compare and contrast keeping up with your work, making sure you have a stable place to do your work, and managing your time precisely.
In terms of the statements identified above, I cannot oppose this opinion that the in-class lectures make more contribution to the students’ school life, and meanwhile, modern technologies and online lecture can serve as a supportive part in this aspect. Perhaps in this hybrid class system, the percentage of in-class lectures should be out-weighted than online class so to achieve a more efficient and effective learning.
Online school is better for students and more efficient. According to a 2013 report by the Babson Survey Research Group, over 6.7 million students were enrolled in at least one online class in 2011, and higher-education institutions continue to refine and enhance their online studying. Public school is troublesome as it has many issues regarding with students. Bullying is a serious problem in traditional schools. Parents believe their children are protected and when that's not the case they choose online schooling as a permanent academic home. Online high schools let teens work at their own pace, students can speed ahead when they are ready too and can take longer in courses that are more confusing. When students fall behind in traditional schools they turn to online schooling to make up missed credits. Parents can also be the ones that make their children's decision for education and choose online instead of traditional school.
Yes, an online education has its pros but a traditional education will always be better for students. Student’s get better grades, and can learn more and achieve more while in a classroom education, rather than an online education. In a classroom environment it is much easier to ask and have questions answered, because the professor is right there and in an online education that would be hard because sometimes the student’s don 't even know their own instructors. So, the opposing side believes that a online education would be easier for students, but universities should remain with a traditional learning
As every college student knows, the process of registering for class is daunting. State University students can especially relate at this time of year, the peak time for registering for spring classes. Finding classes that fit in between clubs, organizations, work schedules, family commitments, and other classes seems like an impossible task. Many students on college campuses across the nation are turning to online classes, a flexible alternative that allows students to juggle their busy schedules while keeping on track for graduation. On paper, the idea of substituting time consuming traditional classes for the more flexible alternative of online classes sounds decent. However, do students really get the same education out of these online classes as their traditional counterparts? How can a class formatted for online consumption possibly give students all the material they have to learn in a way that is meaningful and easy to understand? The unfortunate truth is that these online classes cannot replace traditional physical classrooms. The benefit of online classes’ flexibility is greatly outweighed by their high cost: the loss meaningful learning. Traditional classrooms are better sources of communication and knowledge that allow students to really absorb the material.
One of the things that attracts many students to online school is the fact that they can do their schooling at their own pace whether it be the fact that they work odd hours and maybe doing their class at 8 o’clock is more doable or that they work faster than most people and online school gives them ability to move as fast or as slow as they learn instead of staying at the pace that their class is set at. Learning at a personal pace is actually more beneficial to students, according to the Department of Education’s study that was done in 2009, students in online courses scored slightly higher on exams, and on average, they fared better than traditional students. Another great thing about online schooling is that it is more comfortable than traditional schooling. For traditional schooling the student needs to wake up and physically go to a school whereas a student in online school can log onto their lap top and do school in their pajamas and wouldn’t matter because they are by themselves. So comfort wise online schooling definitely wins, hands
School has been in our lives for the longest time and it has always been a positive experience. It sets students on a path to achieve their education goal and stepping stones to a career! Now with all the advancements in life, students have the opportunity to do online classes. This is useful if the pupil is not able to attend school or their school does not offer some classes that they would like to take. Experiencing both of these ways of schooling, I have an understanding of the differences between the two. The major differences between online school and traditional school are the flexibility opportunities, the communication with the teachers, and the time management/discipline from the learner.
One of the most significant differences between learning in a traditional classroom and learning in an online setting would be the discipline that you have to have in an online setting .In a traditional classroom setting, you are in a classroom with a teacher, and other students, and are guided through the course by that teacher. When learning online, at home, you must manage your time to be distraction free, and maintain your progress on your own. Another difference in online lerning, is flexibility(Rammussen.edu). For those that have a commitment to work and family, online classes offer a flexible schedule that can be fitted to ones personal schedule.A great benefit for the traditional classroom setting, is social interaction.. A traditional
Furthermore, some may suggest that online learning is benefiting our students in society. There has been a breakthrough in time and geographical limitations of education via online courses (Ho, 2009). Online education is cost-effective, efficient, and easily accessible (Schmeeckle, 2003). Online classes are used for individual and independent learning in which the student can learn at their own pace (Gonzalez, 2009). Not only is online education beneficial for breaking down barriers, online education has the potential to help students learn material more efficiently. Students are more likely to seek help from their instructors when the material is taught online (Whipp & Lorentz, 2009). Computer use in statistical classes could help decrease math anxiety (Gundy, Morton, Liu, & Kline, 2006). In a study that measured online students’ ability to achieve the same efficiency of course material as face-to-face students, at least 98% of students reported that they had, so one may be lead to believe that online learning is just as efficient as face-to-face courses (Liebowitz, 2003). With all of the positive aspects of online education, one may wonder why there is any debate as to whether or not online education is beneficial for
Making a decision to enroll in an online course or a course that is taught on campus depends on the person. There are benefits to both depending on the way you look at it. I find that being able to interact with students in person benefits my education. Online courses make it easier to get the work done without dropping any obligations. Students who like to be in a social learning environment will thrive in a classroom setting while those whom suffer from social anxiety might want to look into online
...nditions. Students taking online classes might find it easier to attend family gatherings, traveling, and attended to personal needs. An online class allows the students to work on their own time, to whereas the traditional classes they have to stick with a schedule.
Finally, you have to think and make decision on whether you want to do online or traditional education. There are several aspects between traditional education and online education that are similar but there are also aspects that are different. One of the many that are alike is the requirement for books and papers; however, the two factors not alike are the cost and equality between all students. Some may feel that traditional education is better because you have person to person communication with the instructor. When you are balancing a lot of things you sometimes tend to fall asleep during class. You have to look at your life and your daily responsibilities when you determining which educational setting is best for you. There are a lot of factors you have to look at when you trying find the type of education that fits your lifestyle
While certain aspects of learning in an online environment and learning face-to-face are similar, they also are remarkably different. I am more familiar with a face-to-face learning environment in which I physically attend class. Despite this, an online learning environment is something I am acclimating to. At times I miss the traditional approach, but also am beginning to enjoy the regimented flexibility it affords.
There appers to be bit interest among traditional college students to abandon the classroom and take course online. Only 4% of students tooks online course for college credit, and of those only half thought the online course was worth their time, and another half said they believed hey learned less from the online course and they would have from an on campus one. Based on this finding, it is clear that for students already enrolled in traditional
