Introduction One World Trade Center (WTC) is the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere measuring up at 1776 feet tall. The built output sets new standards of design, construction, and prestige. Its beauty in New York City’s magical skyline makes it an icon. It is the most recognised and desirable office address in the world. In this essay I plan to argue that the social, political and economic status of society has affected the built output of this building considerably, for the good. Making the building one of the best skyscrapers in the world. Firstly I will provided a brief timeline of events beginning with the first WTC collapsing all the way to the built output of the new WTC. I will examine the political effects on the building followed by social and the economic. In conclusion I will state how and how much all these issues have affected the built output. September 11th, 2001, a catastrophic terrorist attack occurred destroying the WTC Twin Towers. From 2001-2014 the reconstruction of the World Trade Center produced pain, sweat and politics. In 2001 the lower Manhattan Development Corporation was formed to organise the reconstruction of the World Trade center. In 2002 the first designs for the WTC site were produced and put on display for the public. They were all rejected for not being inspiring. Later that year a competition was developed for architects all over the world to submit designs for the site. In 2003 David Childs is selected to design the WTC formally known as the Freedom Tower. Daniel Libeskind designs the master plan for the site as well as an initiated design of the One WTC. Late 2003 the plans for the building are revealed. In 2004 Mayor Michael Bloomberg lays a 20-ton slab made of granite at the ... ... middle of paper ... ...sion In conclusion, the designers and builders of the tower have an undesirable job: creating a building that is functional, modern, sustainable and unique. At the same time it is honoring the memory of the people that died in and around the buildings that stood there before. While the green sustainable features have been criticized for being too expensive, they will do more than save just water, electricity and emissions. They and the grace of the building will inspire a generation of green and safe skyscrapers for the twenty-first century. This building has become one of the safest, environmentally friendly and expensive ever built, but as critics slate the building for various reasons, one cannot take away the determination through political, social and economic status that designers and workers have created such a beautiful building with great meaning.

September 11th, 2001 is one of the worst days in the United States of America’s history by far. It all began at 8:45am when a stolen airplane crashed into the north tower of the World Trade Center. Many people believed that this was...
In the article “Terrorized by War on Terror” by Zbigniew Brzezinski, is about the attack on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. They hijacked four airplanes in mid-flight. The terrorists flew two of the planes into two the World Trade Center in New York City. The crash caused the buildings to catch fire and collapse causing the whole city to fill up with smoke and ash. Another plane destroyed part of the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia. The fourth plane cr...
September 11th, 2001 will forever be etched into American history as one of the worst terrorist attacks against the United States. To memorialize the victims that perished on this day, an official memorial was built in the footprints of the World Trade Centers (WTC). While the goal of this memorial was to be peaceful, some debates have arisen about the memorial. Some believe that they should have something different for the design and others dislike components of the winning design. Even with the many debates that surround this memorial, it is still a valuable piece of art to the public that provides a place for families and others to remember those who were killed on that day. People that visit the memorial connect with it physically and emotionally.

David had begun planning and pushing for the creation of the World Trade Center near the end of the 1950’s. His brother, Nelson Rockefeller, the current governor of NY, got the Port Authority of New Jersey and New York to look into the plans for the project. They had also already begun planning for a trade facility.
"Five hundred dollars will be the reward for the architect who sets forth the plans for our nations new capitol building." Thomas Jefferson stated. He was also included in the long list of contestants who submitted thier construction designs. Three months after the contest ended, a man by the name of Dr .William Thorton submitted his designs of the capital. (Prolman, 5)
On September 11th 2001 at 8:45am the first hijacked plane crashed into the World Trade Centre. American Airlines Flight 11 out of Boston, Massachusetts was the first out of four planes to be hijacked that day. As people looked on they saw how many people lost their lives in that short second. Many people looked on in shock and amazement at the same time. As they were looking at the first hijacked plane in the World trade Centre they saw a second hijacked plane Airlines Flight 175 from Boston, crashes into the south tower of the World Trade Center and explodes at around 9:03am. The south tower of the World Trade Center collapses, plummeting into the streets below, and a massive cloud of dust formed and slowly drifted away from the buildings at 10:05am. As many people ran for cover the second World trade Centre collapsed at10:28.
The Willis Tower has a very unique and strange structural design. The Willis Tower’s architect firm was the company Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM). It was the company that provided the Willis Tower’s architect, Bruce Graham. It also provided the Structural Engineer, Fazlur Rahman Khan. The pla...
Sustainable design seeks to reduce negative impacts on the environment, the health and comfort of building occupants, thereby improving building performance. The basic objects of sustainability are to reduce consumption of non-renewable resources, minimal waste, and create healthy, productive environments (“Sustainable Design”). Focusing primarily on the sustainable design principles, there are five, including: low-impact materials, energy efficiency, quality and durability, design for reuse and recycling, and renewability. As sustainability appears to become the necessary trend in architecture, the question concerning the cost versus outcome of “going green” really an investment or a waste of time and money comes to mind. With our research provided below, we believe the expenses may truly be with the investment in the end.
On September 11, 2001, a terrorist attack was imposed on the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York City. Two planes were hijacked, and as a result both crashed into the North and South towers of the World Trade Center. Thousands of lives were lost that day, as well as an entire Nation’s soul. We now remember the tragedy of what happened on September eleventh by the emptiness created by Ground Zero. Ground Zero is the location at where the twin towers once stood. It is a memorial site in which millions of people travel from all over to see.
The day thousands of people lost their lives, the day terrorists came into our country and destroyed the Twin Towers, the day of September 11th, 2001 will never be forgotten in history all across the world. This devastating day led to many controversies and unanswered questions. The airplanes flying into the towers were one of the main causes of destruction. However, many speculate that the towers were in fact blown down with explosives placed in selected areas with the intention to make the towers crumble. With the help of the many first hand survivors, local witnesses, scientific studies, and known facts about the towers, many can determine the real cause of the collapse. Explosive devices, along with the airplanes are the main reason for the deaths, destruction and sorrow on the day of 9/11.
... architectures would led to a more organic organization beneficial to the people that choose to make their lives in this city. Although this model of a sustainable city is not a perfectly closed loop, it lays the foundation for one that is. Over time, with constantly evolving and improving technology and new methods of design from the scale of products to buildings, the gaps in the loop could be closed, and a “true” sustainable city could be fully realized.

The beginnings of today's green revolution can be traced back to the environmental awareness of the 1960s and European design. New construction techniques have lead to the development of innovative materials and design concepts. Green buildings are designed, constructed and commissioned to ensure they are healthy for their occupants. Successfully designed green projects can involve an extensive array of factors, ranging from the resourceful use of materials, to careful consideration of function, climate, and location.
