One of the first rights an American citizen is told to seize is the right to the Pursuit of Happiness. Happiness is something that technically all Americans have the “right” to, but are all Americans on the Pursuit of Happiness? While perhaps not all Americans are in the search for happiness, myself, along with many of the young adults in my life, are definitely on the Pursuit of Happiness. Happiness, much like beauty, is in the eyes of the beholder. So, while happiness may vary between you and me, there are also definite common trends seen in the lives of truly happy people. In my life, there are three things that truly encourage my happiness. I went home and spent the week with my family appreciating everything they did and feeling so grateful for all that we had. Nothing had changed except that I got a wakeup call showing me how lucky I truly was and that my normal contentment is also my happiness. I was so happy all along but it took this horrible situation for me to understand that what I had was something to be grateful for. I think that it is important to remember that happiness is not ignorance and that in order to be happy there must be a balance of sad so that you can recognize and appreciate the happiness for what it is. The week following this dramatic experience, I spent my time simply hanging out with my family whom were all the same except we had been granted the privilege of learning what hardship is and been given a second chance. Realizing how quickly everything can change made us cherish the irreplaceable time we have together. Happiness didn 't come to me from being a millionaire or winning an olympic title, but rather through relishing in the small moments because I realized all I had to be grateful
