Odysseus was the most prominent hero of the Greeks who fought in the Trojan War. Some of the qualities of a hero usually include: courage, bravery, dedication, sacrifice, intelligence, and perseverance. Odysseus had all the qualities of a hero throughout his journey. In the Odyssey written by Homer, the text suggests that the main character, Odysseus maintains his identity despite the experiences he faces throughout his journey towards home. In Book 4, Homer explains, “Helen, the Spartan Queen’s, recall on another example of Odysseus’s cunning in the past. “This example was about Odysseus dressed as a beggar to gain access to the city walls.”
Odysseus’s identity was based on polutropos, which means the man of many journeys. He still used his devious personality during his journey towards home. In Book 6, Odysseus is in need for directions, clothes, food, and shelter. Also in Book 6, Homer states, “ He launched in at once, endearing, sly and suave: Here I am at your mercy, Princess – are you a goddess or a mortal?” “I have never laid eyes on anyone like you, neither man nor woman…. I look at you and a sense of wonder takes me.” These lines prove that Odysseus begged and complimented
