Obesity cannot be blamed solely on the individual, Big business, government, and the capitalist system play significant roles in the obesity epidemic, but that doesn’t mean the individual cannot make a difference. There are plenty of ways you can make a difference by changing your lifestyle and diet.

One of the top causes of obesity is poor nutrition. When you are not getting the proper food your body needs it doesn’t work as well as it should. You may start gaining weight if your eating too many carbs and you may feel like you are dragging throughout the day if you eat too much junk food. Junk food has a lot of unwanted fat and sugar but you still need foods with fat in it. There are certain types of fat that are healthier for you such as, unsaturated fat. Examples of that would be salmon, almonds, natural peanut butter, and avocado.

Another cause of obesity would be lack of exercise. Finding the time to exercise can be a big problem for some people. With working, taking care of kids, cooking meals, and extra activities, the time just isn’t there. The best time to exercise would be early in the morning before you start your day, if you have very busy days throughout the week and you could also exercise on the weekend if there is time. Exercising is good and needed for everyone regardless of weight or age. Even if you are not overweight you still need exercise. People may think if you look healthy or look thin on the outside means your healthy on the inside but that is far from the truth. You can be the most ideal weight and size ever but the inside of your body might not be getting the exercise and nutrition that it needs. If you set goals for yourself it will encourage you to do it more especially when you reward yourself. You can set small or big goals. A small goal could be to drink nothing but water all week or exercise 4 times this week for an hour and reward yourself with something you wanted. A big goal could be to lose a certain amount of pounds in 6 months or a year. Goals will help you feel more confident and will encourage you. Overall there are numerous things you can do to better your health regardless of all the unhealthy foods you see advertised in commercials and in stores. You can make a big change in your life but you have to make the first move and soon you’ll be on your way to a healthy lifestyle.
