Research shows that school lunches are highly concentrated in salt, sugar, and unsaturated fat. Elementary, middle and high schools are over populated with vending machines, school stores and snack bars (The National School Lunch and Competitive Food Offerings). It is not uncommon for a student to grab more than 2 or 3 snacks at once from the lunch line without considering healthier options. They are not being monitored and this has to stop. Students are constantly exposed to unhealthy options on a daily basis. Most students eat at least 1 school lunch every day during the school year. Parents and educators should be responsible for making sure that our students are fed nutritious well-balanced meals every day. But most importantly doctors are recommending their patients not to eat school lunch because it is unhealthy.
Obesity is the state of being excessively over weight. Childhood obesity is when a child is well overweight for his or her age. One of the main causes are dietary patterns. Obesity is not developing in children who take lunch from home. Most parents are sure to pack healthy lunches for their children every day. Actually, bagged lunches or lunches that come from home consist of home cooked meals that children usually do not refuse these meals. My observation has been that children are inclined to eat home-cooked healthy meals than not to.
