There are a lot of things researchers have learned over the years in the terms of nutrition and what is considered a healthy food choice. Armed with the research, caregivers of children now know that eating a balanced meal is very important for the children that they watch. Although, Junk food is convenient and delicious, healthy food will help children focus in class, and the benefits of eating healthy greatly pay off in the future. Eating healthy can help children in many aspects of their life, but not eating right can cause problems in the future with their physical body as well as their learning mind. Junk food can be very appealing because of taste, price and convenience, but most children do not understand the health risks they are indulging in. Junk food is bad for many reasons the most significant is the risk of obesity and obesity related illnesses; a study published in Pediatrics in 2004 that “children eating junk food was linked with many dangerous risk for obesity.” According to this study, kids who ate junk food were more likely to consume a large amount of carbohydrates, fats, and sugar when eating junk food. The children were also less likely to eat as much dairy, fiber, and fruits and vegetables as children who did not eat junk food. Another, reason junk food should be avoided by young children would be that it causes chronic illness. According to the Prevention Institute, researchers fault junk food for the growing rates of high blood pressure, stroke, and diabetes. Chronic illness rates are sky rocketing for children who eat junk food regularly. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention predicts if this trend of unhealthy eating continues; “…one in three U.S. adults will have diabetes by the year 2050.” I... ... middle of paper ... ...cising can lead to a more energetic and social child, which can boost a child’s confidence and self-esteem. It is obvious to see why everyone, especially children need to eat healthy; children set the basics of there eating habits when they are still young, so it is very important to parents that they start there kid off on choosing healthy foods. If they start off on eating junk food; not only are they setting bad future habits, but they are also setting themselves up to do poorly in school. Eating healthy is not just for appetences, but also a way to better improve the ability to do well in class and to have a more positive outlook on life.
