Many people find that making small changes in their daily lives towards a healthier lifestyle is the easiest way to go; but all small changes aren’t so easy. For instance, have you taken the time lately to cook brown rice? Switching out brown rice for white rice is a step in the right direction, that is if you have the time to cook it.
Brown rice can take as long as an hour to cook in traditional stove top methods; but what if I told you there was an easier way? That’s right, I’m here to tell you all about cooking brown rice in the microwave. We all turn to our microwave for convenience and its time brown rice was added to that list!
A simple google search will yield many techniques and recipes, but mine will keep it short, simple, and straight to the point. There is no need for a special rice maker to take up space on your counter or an hour long stove top preparation. You can easily make the perfect brown rice in the microwave by following my 3 easy steps!
The Basics of Cooking Brown Rice in the Microwave
Cooking brown rice in the microwave, truly, couldn’t be a similar or more minimal task. You will only need a few key kitchen tools and ingredients to get you started!
• Microwave
This one is a no-brainer, but, it would be useful for you to know what heat setting your microwave is on and how to adjust it if needed.

• Brown Rice
Another obvious ingredient is the brown rice. You will want to prep your rice before you start the cooking process. Rinse the rice under cold water, drain, and repeat until the water is clear and no longer milky. This will remove excess starch from the rice, which can cause the rice to boil over during cooking. The Outcome

Once your rice is done cooking it should be the perfectly cooked, fluffy texture you were looking for! You may be wondering “why not just use a rice cooker or stove top?”. Well, do you have time to cook brown rice on the stove for at least an hour, stirring and nurturing it the entire time? Do you have the extra counter space for an added bulky appliance that isn’t even multipurpose? Well, neither do I.

For me, this is the convenient way to get brown rice into my crazy hectic family and still feel a little better about what they are eating for dinner. Pairing simple microwave brown rice with a simple slow cooker meal, is the ideal weeknight dinner!
