Nomad: Terraforming Mars

Mars, the planet once homed by the Doctor’s archenemy ice warrior is now on its way of becoming human’s safe haven.

Mars, the Fourth planet away from Sun, second smallest planet in solar system is known for its similarities to earth. Immigration to an alien planet is no longer a cliché subject for science fictions but has gradually become a serious scientific topic and project. Among the reasons behind tide of immigration to Mars, environmental problems stand out.

Just as Christian Parenti pointed out in his book Tropic of Chaos, the environmental problem, especially climate change is happening faster than we predicted. The growing number of extreme weather events suggests that disruptive climate change is inevitable even if we begin to stop dumping green house gases. Even worth, climate change collides with current-existing political and economical problems forms a terrible collection of disasters which Parenti called the catastrophic convergence. Growing population, food safety and shortage, water pollution, urbanization and deficiency of lands all contributes to the catastrophic convergence. Parenti argued that such problems don’t just add up nut rather compound and amplify each other, in a way one problem expresses itself through another.

In his book, Parenti suggested that to resolve these problems by mitigation and technological and political adaptation. He argued that by transforming humanity’s relationship with nature and with itself, environmental changes more importantly the catastrophic convergence. Parenti as a sociology provides his solution for these problems. ...opment. The interplanetary transportation technology is essential to the project. However, the nomadic in two scenarios is different. The designers suggests another nomadic lifestyle. Instead of moving from time to time on earth, future generations can solve the same urbanization and population problems by moving to mars or other planets. Human’s exploration for universe is never going to stop. One of the results of the exploration would be to colonize on other planets. Designer of Nomad: terraforming project provided the future generation with a method to concur the foreign planet.

Colonizing on Mars provides human race a second chance to resolve the environmental problems on earth and a new start to explore the limits of humanity. Megstructure Nomad：terraforming project provides the method to achieve the goal and build a safe haven for the people in future.
