The Great Flood was “the covering of the earth with water that occurred during the time of Noah (The Freed Dictionary).” “ In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, on the seventeenth day of the second month- on that day all the springs of the great deep burst forth, and the floodgates of the heavens were opened (Genesis 7:11).” The Great Flood had major effects on the earth as we know it today. It caused the climate to change, which lead to the Ice Age and the most drastic change was to the land.
The Great Flood changed the climate causing the Ice Age to develop. The Ice Age caused many problems, but the biggest effect was the animals dying off. The weather changed so suddenly during it a lot of animals just froze to death. Several species of creatures died out, including mammoths. There was a body of a mammoth found in the Artic that had its blood and everything preserved, due to the cold. The mammoth was found “in good preservation on Lyakhovsky Islands of Novosibirsk archipelago (Fox News).” Many mammoths may have survived a big longer than the one they found on the Islands, but after the Ice Age they were gone. The mammoths all disappeared, because of the Ice Age. Even if people hunted the mammoths it still was due to the cold weather the Ice Age brought about. The cold weather would have made food hard to find so humans had to get whatever they could even if it was a mammoth.
A lot of plants died also, because of the really cold weather. “Research has shown that plant diversity in South East Australia was as rich as some of the most diverse places in the world, and that most of these species went extinct during the ice ages… (Scott-Melbourne, Rebecca).” The study showed that the plants that died out possibly couldn’t stand ...

The Epic of Gilgamesh records a story of a world-wide flood and pre-dates Genesis. So some claim that this invalidates the Genesis record. But P.J. Wiseman presents an interesting theory in this regard in his book Ancient Records and the Structure of Genesis (New York: Thomas Nelson, 1985).

In this period the Earth was very cold and there were multiple glaciers. It was a huge ice age. Scientists say that the reason for the ice age was because of a 100,000-year cycle related to the Earths orbit and shape. Mammals got very big and lived in cold grasslands. These animals were relatives of the elephants. They are mammoths and mastodons. The extinction of these animals was at the same time of the extinction of the ice age.
The Little Ice Age was a period of time in which parts of Europe and North America were exposed to colder winters than those generations before and after. This phase lasted a surprisingly long time from around the 1300’s to about 1870. Although it is not considered to be a full on “ice age”, it is said to have many effects on history including important roles on defining how we currently live today.
...adal time scales. Its ecosystems “contain a large proportion of endemic (solely Australian) species, reflecting their long evolutionary history and isolation from other landmasses”—except during the last glacial period (www.greenhouse.gov.au/science/guide/pubs/chapter1.pdf). While its population of 20 million is still concentrated on the continent’s coast, this is a different coastline than that on which early settlers made homes for themselves 40,000 years ago; moreover, since the period of British colonization, it is a different population too.
Changing seasons was to the advantages of mammals who were warm blooded over reptiles who couldn’t control their metabolic temperatures. Thus, many reptiles, such as lizards and crocodiles, did not evolve the way mammals did since they weren’t able to flourish as much as rodents and hoofed animals. Due to this climate change, it was crucial that animals evolve in order to develop the certain traits, characteristics, and skills to be able to survive and adapt to this new environment. When the forests began to cool, mammals evolved to possess the traits of being a scavenger and being short legged. As a result of the insect group expanding, it provided a more plentiful amount of food to the small sized mammals, which further increased their population. In account of the growth of the polar ice cap and it attaining more ocean water, sea levels dropped and connected certain areas of Asia and Europe together which had once been separate, which allowed species to travel from one area to the other since they were now connected and can explain how one species migrated from one continent to the other. However, many herbivores could not adapt to this

Elephants are dated to be around this earth for about six million years ago. Mammoth remains have been found in Europe, Africa, Asia, and North America, today most of elephants around earth are mostly found only around Africa. Mammoths are also believed to have originally evolved in North Africa about 4.8 million years ago, where bones of them have been found in Chad, Libya, and Morocco. I believe that throughout time the mammoth has evolved to not become extinct. In spite the fact that the mammoth is extinct now is said by scientists that it is mostly because of human influence. During the ice age there were many mammals such as giant ground slots and mammoths. All of these animals have long since gone extinct and their existence is known
The roles of Noah and Utnapishtim in the Flood Myths are quite similar. There are several differences regarding the two flood myths, but the general idea behind the two remains consistent. In the Mesopotamian Flood Myth, the Gods were overwhelmed by the amount of humans that existed on Earth and were unable to sleep due to the noise of men. So they decided to "exterminate mankind." While in the Hebrew story of Noah and the Flood Myth, God grew tired of the evil that had plagued mankind and engulfed the earth. So God decided to start the world over to undue the mistakes of man. Both of these stories display an attempt by the Gods to start the world over to cleanse the earth. Both Utnapishtim and Noah were spoken to by Gods and asked to build large boats from which all who were to be spared would seek shelter during the storm. Both men were allowed to spare the lives of their family via the safety of the boats. Also, the method used by the Gods in these myths are the same, the skies would rain down upon the earth flooding the land and killing all who were not ordered onto the boats.
The amazing stories of the great flood that are described in The Epic of Gilgamesh which is translated by N.K. Sandars and “The Story of the Flood” which is the King James version, both stories similarly. Many of the events of each story are very similar in ways and very different in some of them. From reading both stories I concluded that there was a huge flood that took place in that area of the world. Even though the way both stories describe the flood; The Epic of Gilgamesh is more imaginable. I say that because it is more realistic to have rain for six days, six nights than for forty days, forty nights. Both flood stories have a major similarity and difference though. Both stories described the same flood but they did it in different ways.
