Former President George W. Bush made a push for a major education-reform, which would hold both teachers and administrators accountable for student performance. The No Child Left Behind Act is an upgrade to the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965, which was the first form of legislation to define a clear role of the federal government in educational policy making. Since 2002 with the implementation of the No Child Left Behind Act, all fifty states across America have been challenged to hold schools to a high academic achievement level. This act would eventually significantly increase the role of the federal government in the creation of policies and procedures within public schools. This new act mandates that all states test students grade three through twelve in both mathematics and reading.
West Virginian physician John J. Students are provided one on one instruction and more individual time in smaller groups to learn hands on. With these changes schools have seen drastic changes to their results.
While I disagree with the use of our current unsuitable test materials, standardized test should not be disregarded. An endorsed test that can link state standards together would be a crucial tool in measuring and improving student performance. Allowing teachers and administrators to be apart of the testing will result in a better level of accountability. Assuming there is such a test, Joel Kelin says it best “teaching people to read and understand paragraphs, that’s what I think education is about,” then he’s right.
