“Next Generation 911 (NG911) will enhance the 911 system to create a faster, more flexible, resilient, and scalable system that allows 911 to keep up with communication technology used by the public” (911.gov, n.d.). As previously quoted, 70 percent of the nation’s population is using mobile devices that are not compatible with current 911 standards. The NG911 policy is a compilation of ideas, research, framework information on NG911 systems, committees and organization established to assist PSAPs, as well as, suggested protocols for implementation and continued usage of a Next Generation 911 system.
Both short-term and long-term goals of NG911 seem to be legal, just, and democratic. This policy does not infringe on anyone’s rights. There is no federal mandate forcing anyone to accept this initiative. The goals of Next Generation 911 are fairly simple, in that, they are just providing support and suggestions to upgrade an out-of-date system in order to better meet the needs of the public as a whole.
Funding does appear to be one of the pitfalls of NG911. According to 911.gov (n.d.), current funding in most parts of the U.S. won’t be enough to pay for the upgrades associated with NG911. Although every PSAP will incur different costs, switching over to Next Generation 911 will require some significant upfront cost. “Another hurdle will be the need to maintain the current legacy 911 system through the transition, typically until all agencies in a state or region are linked” (911.gov, n.d.). 911.gov (n.d.) further went on to say, that a ballpark figure for a major metropolitan area to move to NG911 is about $5-7 million and that does not include the cost to upgrade existing equipment and other network costs which can add up...

...left to decipher between a real emergency and a mistaken call or text, then to protect ourselves we would advocate for liability protection or some type of contingency that wouldn’t place blame on a dispatcher if help was not sent and should have been in those cases where there was no clear indication that the caller was experiencing an emergency.
As previously mentioned, this policy will have a significant impact on emergency dispatcher’s mental health. I am a big proponent of Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM). It is so important for dispatchers to manage the stress of the job and pay attention to their mental and physical well-being. I currently advocate for dispatchers to utilize Employee Assistance Programs (EAP) and practice self-care. Advocating for stress management will become even more important with the implementation of Next Generation 911.

America 's Next Great Generation Essay

- America’s Next Great Generation Narcissistic and self-involved; those are common adjectives used to describe America’s next great generation and as a member of generation Y, I was completely repulsed by that simple description of my generation. Sadly, we’ve been pampered by our generation X parents, who had to work for almost everything when they were little and feel that it’s only right to give us everything we ever wanted because that was a luxury they never had. We are a group of people that think the world is constantly happening to us and that we are entitled to everything....   [tags: Generation Y, Generation X, Strauss and Howe]

Green Energy: The Next Generation Essay

- Green Energy: The Next Generation Purcell Schools should transform all their schools to use “green” energy and environmentally-friendly products. It would not only be better for the school and community, but would also be profitable for the school system. Although it does cost a little more a year on a bill, it will actually, in the grand scheme of things, cost less in the near future. That would mean, as a school system and community, it would enable a better technology program for the school, more field trips, new textbooks, and even a much better salary for our very underpaid teachers and administrators....   [tags: Energy ]

Equity Feminism for the Next Generation Essay

- Still Enduring: Equity Feminism for the Next Generation Webster defines feminism as both "the theory of the political, economic, and social equality of the sexes" and "organized activity on the behalf of women's rights and interests" (Webster 418).
