Since my childhood, I have been celebrating New Year at my home sitting in front of TV watching the New year programs, or by wishing my friends New Year late night via sms. But, this time I celebrated my new year differently, in a very special way that I had never thought of and never planned for it. I would never forget the night of 31st December 2009 and the first day of New Year i.e.1st January 2010.
Last year we had NOSPLAN (National Organization of Student of Planning) in the SPA, Delhi, in the month of Jan ’09. This time GNDU Amritsar had hosted two-day NOSPLAN on 29 December 2009 and 1 January, 2010. On the night of 26 December, we boarded train at 2 a.m from Vijayawada station to Delhi after seeing the movie 3 idiots at a cinema hall which made our tour more enjoyable. We reached on December 28 and on the same day we had bussed to Amritsar from Lal Quila and reached there next morning, i.e. on 29th of December. We had been staying in GNDU University only. On 30th night, we had a group dance competition between the colleges. Obviously, I danced but this time with more proper rehearsal not like last time when we practiced dance just few hours before the competition and we stood 2nd runner up which was completely unexpected.
This time we knew we would come in top 3 and we came i.e., 2nd runner up again. That very night and the next morning also, I was completely absorbed in the dance performance. My mind was not taking anything and I couldn’t help as it happens to me often. Last year also when I danced with my friends I was in same situation, sank into my thoughts.
Anyway, next day i.e. on 31st December night we had DJ party in some banquet hall in Amritsar. All colleges that were present there for NOSPLAN celebrated...

...ises of the temple. We did not enter the temple then as it was already around 10p.m. We saw the people taking the “Granth” in “Palki” from the temple to some building. Afterwards, we entered the temple when it was less crowded. People were cleaning the temple when we entered. As the temple is in the middle of water, it was a magnificent view from the temple. Lots of lighting was there. The image of illuminated temple was reflected on the water and the image of water was equally reflected on the temple wall. Somewhere around 11, we left the temple. I bought “Kadha” for my family and for me. Then we headed towards our rooms. We hit the bed as soon as we reached in the room as we were so tired and my throat needed rest.
I have never felt so privileged seeing such places. It was the most memorable New Year for me. I captured all these unforgettable moments in camera.

I arrived at the temple only in order to complete a school assignment, but I left the temple knowing I will be returning. The incredibly welcoming monks in the temple mentioned that meditation takes time and practice to master, encouraging me to return and practice meditation in their religious hall as they give me lessons on how to improve my focus while meditating. The Wat Buddharangsi Temple is a place that I would recommend anyone to visit. The feeling of relaxation and peace is one that I would love to, and will enjoy, on more than one occasion, as it is now one of my favorite places to relax in.
As the sunrises over the crisp fall horizon, followers begin to surround the sacred space in anticipation for what is about to take place. The sacred space is soon surrounded by people who are dressed in the sacred colors, some wearing necklaces of their totem, while others wear headdresses that adorn with their sacred symbol. People begin to drink, play music, and prepare a banquet feast for each other, creating a festival atmosphere in hope that today’s ritual will be a success. As the ritual gets set to begin followers begin to crowd into the sacred space, surrounded with pictures and names of those who have reached greatness. As the ritual begins, music is played in order to bring everyone together and prepare for the events that are about to unfold. It is now that the followers have a very simple focus, to aid in the success of the ritual. Those who celebrate the ritual take there places in the middle of the sacred space, with the followers surrounding them; now that the ritual has begun the celebrants begin to perform and focus on certain actions in order connect themselves with the transcendent sacred. The followers who look on begin to aid by chanting, allowing themselves to also transcend. In hopes that the ritual was a success, everyone does their part until the last second of the ritual is completed, it is only then that it can be decided if the ritual was a success and they can either celebrate or grieve by signing in their most sacred song, bonding them once again with each other.
I was very nervous to visit the Hindu Mandir. However, once I got there, I saw how beautiful and amazing it really was. It was so beautiful that I thought that I was in a museum instead of a place of worship. It was absolutely nothing as I expected it to be at all. While I was in the Mandir, I felt a sense of honor and serenity and at peace while looking around at all the beautiful art. In addition, I learned many different things because of this visit about Hinduism. The visit made me learn things that I would have never learned if I did not go on the trip. I learned about what a Mandir is, a Mandir functions, the history of Hinduism, their beliefs, and their festival celebrations.
I clearly remember being woken up by Ma at five-thirty in the morning so I could take a shower and proceed to getting ready. Several hours later, after having my hair and makeup finished, and having put on the dress, we were ready to head out. I didn’t dare catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror until I was ready to leave, and I remember feeling something cold run swiftly down my spine as I stared into the reflection of a girl I could hardly recognize. Still astounded by that encounter, we walked to our local temple for a brief ceremony before heading to “La Hacienda”, where family and friends were already waiting for us. The moment I stepped into the vivid garden of the venue, the world around me came to an abrupt stop. I inhaled the fresh floral scent that completely filled my lungs, and what was left of my consciousness could only distinguish specks of silver and purple from the decorations. When I returned from the trance, I was welcomed by the clapping hands of our guests as the banda played “Las Mañanitas”. We steadily walked over to our table and after getting set up we made a toast and proceeded to having our meals. This was just the beginning of a very long day, as later on in the evening we would begin the dance, which was very special to me in many
...ground. There were many stone pillars in the temple and every pillar was crafted with amazing design. As I noticed, every design was representation of Indian culture. The design of different gods and all the famous characters from India was beautiful. The ceiling, every corner, and every part inside the temple was crafted. There was detail written about the craftwork of the temple. The stones were hand carved by more than 2000 craftsman over a period of 22 months. The lord Swaminarayan statue was in middle of the temple. The statue was so alive felt like Lord Swaminarayan is actually there in the temple. The ornaments and cloths of god were beautiful. There were lots of Indian food were offered to the god. The whole temple decorated with flowers and different color lights. The place was truly devoted to the god and best place to go find peace and worship the god.
As I opened my eyes, I saw a giant cruise ship in front of my eyes.It took two whole days but we finally reached Florida where we went Rock Gliding.It’s where you have to get past a giant,rocky maze.The winner gets to cans of ice cream.Though my sister won,we all shared the ice cream.Next stop,the Bahamas!!!In the bahamas we went parasailing up 700 ft above water level,it was so much fun.The boat driver even let us touch the smooth,light blue water with our feet.Finally, we ended with a relaxing dolphin swim on the soft,delicate beach of Jamaica.
When I walk on that stage, or finally hit that turn, or finish choreographing that dance break, I am caught with a breathless feeling of pure joy, because it is just so easy to lose track of time dancing. When all this seemingly “lost” time has a gorgeous end result, there is nothing to do but smile, and continue dancing. That stage, whether it be a small dance room or the grand stage I look forward to someday dancing on, is such a safe yet vulnerable place. Putting your own choreography on a stage is terrifying as it is, but sharing a dance that you've worked six months on to have people judge is even worse. Yet that is exactly what I did in my school's annual “Dancing with the Stars” event. Each person on the dance team is required to choreograph a partner routine, and Dancing with the Stars style, perform it, and be judged. The part of this event that is challenging is not the performance itself, but the six months leading up to it. Deciding the dance style and overall theme, finding a partner, choreographing a dance, getting costumes, figuring out lighting, cutting music, and everything in between. While we headed down to the mat, I could see all the other cheerleaders nervous as can be. Because all the teams in the arena had to go down on the mat, it was very crowded and hot. When my team found a spot on the mat, we danced like animals along with the music that was playing. After all the teams got on the floor, we all sat down and listened quietly while we heard the announcer announce the awards. Because of all the teams in each division, the announcer only announced the top three so it will go faster. After a while, it finally got to the division that my team was in. As we bow our heads and hold each other's hand tightly, we listen carefully. As each name was called, I got more and more nervous. After the last team name was called we let go of each other’s hand and looked around and cheered for everyone who did make it in the top three. Upon entering, you could literally feel the sense of calmness in the scene. It was so quiet that I felt even my whispering was too loud. I had no intention of visiting the temple to change my personal beliefs, but I was curious to see what it was like being in a different religious setting. Being able to sit with a monk and hear what he had to say about the Buddhism and some teachings was an amazing experience. The monk had us practicing meditation, which was troublesome for me because I did not really understand or get that feeling of “knowing where my mind was at”. What I liked the most about visiting the temple was that I did not get that forced welcoming feeling that I usually get when I go to a Catholic or Christian church. I do not like all of the forced hellos and handshakes when I am entering a church. During my car ride home, I realized that there are many different types of people and religion in such a small area around us. As soon as my feet touched the sand coarse holy land of salvation, I felt an eternal bliss. The red, blue, purple, and pink flowers were enjoying the cold harmonious breeze on the beautiful green trees that sounded like a musician playing melodious music with a guitar. It was totally weird for having Mohan with us. It was his first day he ever skipped an English class. His attendance was very less comparing to all of us who were sitting there. He tries lots but can’t able to get good mark in the class somehow. I guess he gave up after the entire struggle and hard work he is being doing in the class and ended up with just 61% overall. I avoided myself asking him why he was skipping the class.
