New Right is a conservative political view their perspective on everything is that the state cannot provide for every person in society, which means people have to help themselves to help through the free market. New Right are very similar to functionalists however, New Right believes that schools fail because they run by the state. Schools were failing because they wasted money and got poor results due to the lower standards compared to private schools because school leads to a less qualified workforce consequently a less prosperous economy. New Right solution was to create an education market. This will lead to; a higher standard of teaching, diversity, choice and efficiently which would in turn increase the ability to meet the needs of students, parents and employers. The New Right believe that it is important for children to have a stable home, with married mother and father, and that ideally the wife should be able to stay at home to look after the children. Most adults still marry and have children. Their two natural parents rear most children. Most marriages continue until death. Divorce has increased, but most divorcees remarry. Feminism gender roles are socially determined rather than being fixed by biology. Traditional gender roles are oppressive to women. Feminism divorce being easier is good because without it many women end up being trapped in unhappy or abusive relationships. Most single parents are not welfare scroungers most want to work but find it difficult to find jobs that are flexible enough so they can balance work and child care so they do not find themselves in a situation of role conflict. Chester argues that the New Right exaggerate the extent of cohabiting and single parent families most children still spend most of their lives in a nuclear family
