The New Hope Oncology Center, located in New Orleans, Louisiana, provides a comprehensive program of care for oncology patients. New Hope provides diagnostic services, surgical procedures and outpatient treatment in one facility. The center is equipped with the most current diagnostic equipment and highly trained personnel to ensure precise results. New Hope is prepared to diagnose and treat various forms of cancer including cancer of the breast, prostate, stomach, lungs and skin cancer. Mechanisms used to detect cancerous cells in the body include x-rays, ultrasounds and biopsies. Once doctors and diagnostic specialist collaborate to ascertain an accurate diagnosis, the treatment phase of the process begins. New Hope embraces the holistic approach to treatment, assessing each patient with the goal of meeting their medical needs as well as addressing psychosocial issues that are common when diagnosed with a chronic illness. Being diagnosed with cancer brings with it life altering changes to ones physical, mental, social and occupational states. Attending to the comprehensive needs of an oncology patient encompasses application of a multidisciplinary intervention.
Multidisciplinary Team
The multidisciplinary team here at New Hope includes some combination of the following healthcare professionals: dietician, medical oncologists, oncology nurse, pharmacist, radiologists, licensed social worker and a surgeon. Each discipline is represented by an individual licensed and/or certified to perform their respective duties to meet the needs of patients in their entirety. ... medications, chemotherapy and/or surgical methods of treatment. Medical treatment and social services are equally important to the healing process, but their roles are distinctively different. Medical staff are trained to treat cancerous cells infecting the body often times without taking into consideration the scope of the impact. The oncologist clearly demonstrated a lack of compassion when he informed Mrs. Hudson of her diagnosis and hurried along to see another patient. Social workers conversely are trained to focus on the person which entails attending to the needs of the client in their entirety. The provision of emotional support and resources social workers bring to the table are essential to favorable treatment outcomes.
