The two segments of the general environment that would rank highest in their influence on the Netflix are technological segment and demographic segment. According to Netflix (n.d), “Netflix is the world’s leading Internet television network with over 81 million members in over 190 countries enjoying more than 125 million hours of TV shows and movies per day, including original series, documentaries and feature films. Members can watch as much as they want, anytime, anywhere, on nearly any Internet-connected screen. Members can play, pause and resume watching, all without commercials or commitments.” The technological segment of Netflix includes new innovations and new devices (Mit Technology Review, 2013). According to Mit Technology Review (2013), “Netflix built demand for a streaming video service by including it free with DVD-by-mail subscriptions.” Also, Netflix offers to its customers many technological advances by increasing speeds of consumer broadband in order to stream movies through internet to Netflix customers’ homes instead of delivering them in the mail (Mit Technology Review, 2013). According to Technology Review (2013), “the company is also working on perfecting the algorithms that suggest movies to subscribers based on which movies they watch and how they rate them.” Netflix creates an amazing way to help its subscribers to save data while improving picture quality (Smith, 2015). According to Smith (2015), “the new model should give Netflix customers better-looking content while using 20% less bandwidth. That’s a huge deal for customers, particularly in areas with slow internet speeds across the US and abroad.” The technological segment affects Netflix in many ways.
