Negativity as A Cause of Decline

Negativity in the workplace and the demand of jobs are causing a decline in American work ethic. Work ethic is a set of values that is based on hard work, attitude, and character. The three main causes of negativity in the workplace are people are negative, people are discriminated against, and single parents are trying to raise their child(ren) while working. As negativity in the workplace increases, morale, productivity, and work ethic decrease. When there is negativity in the workplace, customers can be chased away. Negativity not only causes work ethic to decline, but it causes the number of customers to decline. People that come into to work negative can affect everyone else around them. Negative employees affect everyone that they encounter throughout the day. A negative employee is sometimes caused by something temporary in the workplace, such as budget cuts or workload increases. Also, hours can temporarily change because of holidays and the location can change due to disaster or remodeling. All of these examples may cause an inconvenience for an employee and they may react negatively to it. Negativity can also evolve slowly over time without reason. Negativity is contagious and may even affect positive employees. A way for anyone to avoid being negative is to “jump-start” their day and make sure they are being positive. If an employee comes in positive, it can cause everyone around them to be positive. If there is negativity going on in the workplace, it shouldn’t be avoided; it should be fixed. Negativity needs to be addressed so that a way to fix it can be established. Whenever an employee that is usually negative does something positive, praise them. They want to earn money and they don’t want to have to go through obstacles to earn it. They need money to live and raise a family, so a job shouldn’t become an obstacle in their life.
