In this current generation, technology is a leading cause in making this world an easier place to communicate. There are plenty of positive effects from technology on people that can be praised. Yet there are many negative effects from technology that people should be concerned about. Each year, the media says less people are voting each year when is an election. People are simply not going out to vote whenever there is an election. Cell phones are causing our generation of teenagers to become politically apathetic.

By not voting in the current elections, politicians are able to continue their role in making our government corrupt. By not voting in the current elections, there won’t be enough votes to push the current politicians to go under the fifty percent mark. Cell phones are causing the same politicians to stay in office. Cell phones are distracting teenagers with their own content like games, applications, and social media. This content is pushing teenagers away from voting at all. One example would be e-voting. Voting from cell phones, at home, work, or school, could potentially help. People wouldn’t have to waste their time at a polling location and could vote whenever from the electronic device. Politicians could also bring the political issues straight to the teenagers. They could bring a political debate to a gym or classroom by arguing with a candidate or discussing current issues with the teens. They could also discuss issues that impact teenagers which could potentially lead to teenagers voting to let their voices be heard. The current presidential election for 2016 is a great example of how politics, like Donald Trump, are speaking out and causing media to cover the early stages of the election. Teachers, parents, and other important adults in our lives, could use this as a building point to bring teenagers into the election.
