The Negative Characteristics of Reality Television Reality shows have been around since the late 20th century, but they were not badly portrayed as the shows of the 21st century. Programs of this time period do not have many good influences for younger viewers however they are still popular and children still manage to watch them. Usually some parents would be able to prevent their sons or daughters from watching certain reality series because of the contents that was being broadcasted. Nevertheless, these modern shows that captures the lives of the stars have drawn attention from both youth and adult viewers. These trends can range from how they behave, to how they view sex appeal, and how they value materialistic items. When children hear or see superstars do certain actions on television they believe that it is okay to do what the celebrities do because if it was not they would not be doing it and it would not be on the television. On the contrary, some of the offensive words and acts are bleeped and censored out, but not all. In the television series “16 and Pregnant or Teen Moms” there are four or more girls ranging from ages 16 to 18 that have had a baby. The show purpose is to show how hard it is to be a teenage mother but instead it just shows how the girls and their boyfriends have problem within their relationships. It also shows the life struggle of the young mothers, but it does not have a good effect on the young girls viewing the show. Teen Mom shows the abuse in the young girls’ relationships between them and their boyfriends or the father of their child whether if the behavior is from the girls. Another show that televise inappropriate acts is “Jersey Shore” with all of the excessive partying and binge drinking. To add on, shows that depicts people lives televise the sex appeals that theses famous people believe to the norm of beauty. Throughout society we try to teach children that bullying is wrong, fighting do not solve everything, and yelling/ arguing will not help you get your point across. Within the television series Bad Girls’ Club there are several females put into this house to compete against each other for the title of being the Bad Girl and to win the cash reward at the end of the show. The girls instead fought each other and sometimes gain up on each other and tried to bully each other out of the competition by jumping or terrorizing the other competitors. There are also fighting and bullying in Love and Hip Hop, Real Housewives, and Little Women. In an episode of “Love and Hip Hop Hollywood” a girl named Moniece sex tape is being used as leverage against her because she went after another one of her co-stars and spilling all of that person’s business. As well there was a similar problem in “Love and Hip Hop Atlanta” with Joseline and MiMi and for the reason of this MiMi almost lost her friendship because she was denying the whole situation but she finally told the truth when she knew that the video was going to be leaked.
