Propaganda During World War Two During World War II propaganda was ubiquitous. It consisted of a wide range of carriers including leaflets, radio, television, and most importantly posters. Posters were used based on their appeal: they were colorful, creative, concise, and mentally stimulating. Posters often portrayed the artist's views on the war. They demonstrated the artist concern for the war, their hopes for the war, and reflected the way enemies were envisioned. Posters also show a nations political status: they reflect a nations allies and enemies, how the nation saw itself, and its greatest hopes and fears of the war. Posters were mainly used to sway public opinion. They were aimed at brainwashing society to think and act a certain way. Each poster was designed specificly for a particular community, playing upon the cultural norm. Since posters were rather inexpensive, they were not made to last, but were effectively used as a visual tool of propaganda. They were usually very graphic, therefore allowing even the illiterate to be swayed in the direction of the artists choosing. Essentially the posters intentions were to boost morale at home. This was a necessity since the United States had to cut short American liberties and rights in order to successfully wage a war. Such liberties included: food rationing, involuntary drafting, metal rationing, relocation of citizens, and many other restrictions. Posters were used to keep morale high and reassure the public just what they were fighting for and that victory is inevitable. World War II propaganda posters were used mainly for three reasons: to invoke public sympathy for the war cause, to help finance the war, and by encouraging people to support the war. For example, the Allies invented non-existent anti-Nazi groups in Germany. When World War II broke out in 1939, many countries began using propaganda to strengthen support for the war. Countries battling in the war used propaganda to unite citizens and keep them focused on contributing to the war effort. During the World War II period, Great Britain and their allies; which included the United States and China, were one of the groups in the war that used various techniques and platforms in order to spread propaganda across their countries. One such platform that played a major role in the spread of propaganda was Britain and their allies’ use of posters to increase morale among people.
Words and images were silent weapons used by all governments involved during World War II. Wars are generally fought between soldiers, but the different ideologies often meet on the battlefield as well. The support of the people is crucial during these times since it general knowledge that strength relies on numbers. Propaganda targets people’s emotions and feelings and changes people’s perception about a particular idea, people or situation. Propaganda goes hand in hand with the art of persuasion and convincing; these tools can control and manipulate the collective minds of massive amount of its audience. During World War II, for instance, the elements of war were taken from the location of the military fights and brought to the households of millions of families. Advertising has the power to sell ideas, to give or take away hope, and to boosts people´s morale; the ideas that were presented to the public through propaganda are immortal, they linger in the nation’s memory. Images often displayed in posters and pamphlets during war time, were an essential factor to gain peoples support and trust, images attract people’s attention with more efficiency than word. It is an effective mean to attract attention; it I said that images speak louder than words and this case is not the exception. Media, during World War II, was the catalyst which increased the magnitude of the issue that was being confronted. This event left a mark in our history since its objective was to generate hatred between ethnics. When a person sees a new advertisement or commercial for their favorite shoe company, they immediately want to go and check out their latest designs. Similarly, propaganda uses different sources of media to encourage people to buy a certain item that will benefit their country or an organization. Propaganda was used in World War II to encourage citizens to buy certain tools or participate in certain events to help the soldiers fighting. Both video and radio advertisements were used by the Allied and Axis powers to encourage citizens to aid the war effort, resulting in a rise of nationalism and resentment towards opposing sides.

During the early 1900s a new era of warfare emerged as governments began to employ all economic, technological and psychological resources available to defeat their enemies. This concept of Total War altered the direction of humanity and governments understanding in their allocation of resources. This essay will examine the relationship between propaganda used during World War I, its effect on the masses and the absolutely essential need for the success of such campaigns in obtaining military victory. While leaflet propaganda used during the war will be the main focus, considerations will be given to other forms to illuminate the necessity of understanding and utilizing the tools of this very powerful weapon.

In matter of fact, World War 2 war one of the best thing, it has ever happened to American community. It was an opportunity for millions of people to find and get a job. All around the U. S people would see posters and signs of Uncle Sam saying “I want you”, implying that the government wanted them to join the army, in other words; they were using propaganda. Propaganda was a method the government used to spread the word. They used actors, radios, posters, newspapers, and more so they would be in a position to make sure the people would listen to it. There was more than just to join the army propaganda, there was also propaganda to help out the army by sending war bonds, gardens, also leading women join the army as nurses, or even pilots. Women saw an opportunity to take the men's job in factories, and they took it.

The United States targeted different groups such as; men who were already soldiers, the men that were workers and women. The used techniques were moving and because of it many took charge and helped in the ways they could. There are three propaganda posters that stood out and were moving to others at that time.

Propaganda during World War II was different depending on the location. For example, Nazi Germany is the largest and most successful propaganda documented. Propaganda can be defined as misleading information used to persuade people into believing certain things that may or not be accurate or humane. But how can people be so oblivious,during a propaganda, when millions of people are being murdered around them? The German propaganda, lasting from 1939 to 1945, was the most tragic but yet most successful propaganda recorded in history. Leading this disastrous plan was Adolf Hitler, the leader of Germany from 1934 to 1945.
At the same time, the National Socialist German Workers' Party used a variety of campaign posters as a form of propaganda. Posters became an effective propaganda tool based on its low cost and fast production. The NSDAP was able to create thousands of posters at a fast rate and plaster them within Germany. Other propaganda tools such as newspapers, pamphlets, and leaflets took a vast amount of time in order to create. Early NSDAP posters include vibrant illustrations of illusive members and political figures including Adolf Hitler. An election poster from 1929 Saxon campaign reads: “Two million dead. Did they die in vain? Never! Front soldiers! Adolf Hitler is showing you the way!” The claim is that Hitler will redeem Germany from the loss of World War I. This poster depicts a mournful solider who appears to have lost all sense of hope. It also illustrates colorless colors to provide a sorrowful feeling. A second poster consists of the November 1932 election. The text: “Papen is crippling the economy! Away with him and his program for the ruling class! Come to Hitler!” Examples of these posters were used to stir the anger and hatred of the German people against the Weimar Republic in regards to its response towards World War 1.
