Nature vs nurture debate is one of the oldest arguments in the history of psychology. It is the scientific cultural, and philosophical debate about whether human culture, behavior, and personality are caused primarily by nature or nurture. Nature and nurture are both equally important. They are the two are major influences that affect the person you grow to be and will determine what your children will be tomorrow. Nature refers to heredity, which are traits and features that are inherited from your parents and ancestors. At birth you, as a person, inherits 50% of each parent 's genetic material that are passed along through the chromosomes found in the DNA. Hair color, height, body type, and eye color are some examples of characteristics and abilities that are presented to you at birth. Nurture, by contrast, refers to the external or environmental factors that you, as an individual, is exposed to throughout the lifetime. Nurture includes physical and social environments you grow up from. For example; the neighborhood you grew up in, the relationship you have with your friends, the schools you went to, the government, the media, the parenting style in your household, and the politics.

Meaning the friends you make can influence you to change or you may willingly change because you want to fit in. You are who you are partly because of yourself. It all depends on you and the choices you make for yourself. Yes, people around you can influence you to do the things you do, but remember you have a choi...

... all of us. Through nurture, now that I’m older I don’t exactly see all the struggles that my parent had gone through to raise me, but I do see and understand more about the struggles. Their love for us, nothing can compare to it. Seeing what my parents had gone through and how hard they have work inspired me to work hard, go to school get a good job so in the future they can depend on me and just rest.
Nature vs nurture debate is an old argument, I believe that nature and nurture both work together. Your genes are something that you are born with but your experiences and how you were raised also make you the person you are today. Experiences and opportunities help you develop your personality. It also provides a valuable training ground for later life. Human culture, behavior, and personality are cause primarily by nature and nurture not nature or nurture.

The Debate Of Nature Versus Nurture Essay

- The debate of nature versus nurture has been argued for a long period time. The concept of tabula rasa was popularized by John Locke; it stated that babies are born into this world without innate knowledge. Knowledge and personality are developed through experiences and environment, emphasising the nurture in the nature-nurture split. At first blush, Frankenstein avidly supports the theory but in some other parts it does not. The novel’s support of tabula rasa is easiest to see through the creature’s emotional development....   [tags: Nature versus nurture, Tabula rasa, Innatism]

The Debate On Nature Vs Nurture Essay

- Over the course of studying genetics, scientists have long debated over the discussion nature versus nurture. Many studies have been done regarding the controversial issue, and what truly takes place during a human’s developmental process. Studies related to adoption, twinhood, and the immediate family have all been tried and tested, and although genetics plays a huge role in a person’s genetic makeup, we find that an individual’s environment also plays a significant role in everyone’s personality and phenotype....   [tags: Mental disorder, Suicide, Nature versus nurture]

Essay on The Debate Over Nature Vs. Nurture

- The debate over nature vs. nurture dates back to 1869 when the phrase was developed by an English polymath, Francis Galton. The debate has fueled many debates as to how exactly humans developed and for years it was a very polarized debate you were either on one side or the other not both. Today, however, as Dunn and Craig state “the days are past when theorists argue over whether specific aspects of human development were either a function of biology or a function of experience, resulting from “nature” or “nurture” respectively”, the focus is more on the how much or in what way a behavior is a translation of biology or experience (p....   [tags: Nature versus nurture, Eugenics, Psychology]

Essay on The Nature Vs. Nurture Debate

- Born and Raised Albert Camus once said, “Man is the only creature who refuses to be what he is.” But what makes man what he is. Is it his sheer genetic makeup, or is it the way he was raised. The nature vs. nurture debate has raged on for centuries, but neither side has been able to prove their point indefinitely. Even today we see displays of the contrast between genetics and learned behaviors, some of which are athletics, intelligence, medical histories, etc. Every person is completely unique, a combination of genetic makeup and environment make an individual who they are....   [tags: Nature versus nurture, Eugenics, Human behavior]

The Debate Of Nature Vs. Nurture Essay

- The debate of nature vs. nurture still continues today in the world of psychology. The effects of an individual’s genetics and the effects of their environment on their personality and actions is an age old debate that is still inconclusive. However, it is evident that both sides of the argument carry some form of the truth. It can be contended that the major characteristics of an individual are formed by their environment, more specifically, their past experiences. An individual’s past moulds and shapes their identity, if they do not make an effort to move on from it....   [tags: F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby, Future]

Nature Or Nurture : Biological Factors As The Nature Part Of The Debate Essay

- Psychology has long debated whether behaviorial characteristics are genetic or learned. We refer to genetic characteristics and biological factors as the nature part of the debate and the environmental factors as the nurture part of the debate. While many psychologists, like Freud, Skinner, and Bandura, have formed solid arguments for their sides in the argument, it is very difficult to say whether nature or nurture is the cause of aggression. Each side has research to support them and followers who believe in their side of the debate....   [tags: Psychology, Nature versus nurture, Tabula rasa]

The Nature And Nurture Debate On The Intergenerational Transmission Of Educational Attainment

- My research interest is the nature and nurture debate on the intergenerational transmission of educational attainment.
