Along with deployments over seas the National Guard has state mission. These state missions comprise of multiple parts. Part one of the mission is to respond to the natural disasters of their state and country. Most everyone has heard of the National Guard going out and battling fires, helping general public deal with all aspects of the floods, tornadoes and civil unrest. In these situations the governor of the state, territories or district, places his province in a state of emergency. This allows him to control the National Guard until the crisis is exerted and in which case the National Guard is returned to its normal state as the protector of freedom and safety of their state and country. The second part of this mission is to maintain individual Battle Drills to deploy its gear, for instance if you are in an apache unit your mission is to maintain a certain level of proficiency in your helicopter and to maintain the standard maintenance level of your vehicle. Also part of this mission is to maintain your individual soldier’s ability to perform his/her warrior tasks. Keeping each state National Guard Units ready on a moment’s notice requires success of both individual missions. Success results in the safety and well being of each of the states citizens. [Cite]
For instance the North Dakota National Guard has been fighting the spring floods and is once again fighting floods this year. This year the North Dakota National Guard was prepared so they had placed most of the cities in a pre-flood state of emergency by mid-February, all of this was to prevent the damages which happened in 2009. The enormous deployments of some 750 soldiers, at its highest point, have been called up to help out and work side by side with the citi...

...y and has been and still is involved in all the major military struggles that this country has been faced with along with helping the people in their own communities. The National Guard can be traced all the way back to the Continual Militia where they were doing what they still do today, neigh-bors helping their neighbors survive the struggles of their world. Colonists survived the Indian attacks and soldiers fend off foreign invaders today citizens survive floods, fires and Civil uprisings. The Na-tional Guard is made up citizens that live amongst their very own communities that they live in and when they are called up to serve and protect they do so with great force, valor and loyalty to their gov-ernment. As best said, “The bottom line is whenever we’re called upon, the Guard will be ready, the Guard will be there,” Major General Sprynczynatyk [quote] [Cite]
Elmer Stewart Rhodes is a Yale Law School graduate, a former U.S. Army paratrooper, and a former staffer of Republican Congressman Ron Paul. Rhodes also believes that Hitler could have been stopped if German soldiers and police had refused to follow orders. This idea of dissociation from the mainstream government views was the catalyst Rhodes needed to create the Oath Keepers. The Oath Keepers is a radical anti-government organization -made up of current and former U.S. military and law enforcement officers- that encourages members not to obey laws that violate the United States Constitution. ”The Anti-Defamation League describes the group as "heavily armed extremists with a anti-government mindset looking for potential showdowns with the government". This is plausible due to the several Oath Keepers’ heavily armed protests to “defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic.” in the last several years. While this form of protest is truly spine-chilling, it’s an excellent form of unconventional political participation. So by
The US Army’s official birthday is June 14, 1775, however its origins are much earlier than that. During British colonialism, citizens often had to take up arms to defend themselves, primarily against the Indians, since the British did not have a significant military presence in America. “Two concepts that still shape the American military can be traced to this period. The first is the idea of the citizen soldier, who picks up his gun in wartime and returns to civilian pursuits in peace. The second is the concept of universal obligation…” (Brown, page xiii).

were obligated to own arms and take part in the defense of the community. The National Guard continues its historic mission of providing defense of the nation. The National Guard also fought many battles in the 20th century. The first war they were in during the 20th century was World War 1. From the streets of Harlem and other New York City neighborhoods came the African-American National...
The National Response Framework is a guide designed to assist local, State, and Federal governments in developing functional capabilities and identifying resources based on hazard identification and risk assessment. It outlines the operating structure and identifies key roles and responsibilities. It established a framework to identify capabilities based on resources and the current situation no matter the size or scale. It integrates organizational structures and standardizes how the Nation at all levels plans to react to incidents. The suspected terrorist attack will have health, economic, social, environment and political long-term effects for my community. This is why it is essential that local government’s response is coordinate with all responders. Response doctrine is comprised of five key principles: (1) engaged partnership, (2) tiered response, (3) scalable, flexible, and adaptable operational capabilities, (4) unity of effort through unified command, and (5) readiness to act. An introductory word about each follows. (Homeland Security, 2008)
Hung-Wu, Ming China's first emperor, created a very different type of national guard that differed from traditional ones. This new type of army called Wei-So resembled today's United States National Guard. These men were trained to be soldiers in case they were needed at any time for battle. Pensions would be given to them in return for their service. Heavy-duty armies required large amounts of weopons, but most of all they needed sizable ships to get around bodies of water. It is easy to...
The Army National Guard has a unique dual mission serving both country and community. For over 365 years the citizen-soldiers have come to the aid of their neighbors during times of need. The Guard involves helping communities during natural disasters and civil emergencies. All around the country the National Guard comes to the rescue saving lives, restoring order, and protecting property, as well as being active in local community organizations that improve the quality of life. Many Guard members live, work, and go to school right where they serve. The Guard helps Little League programs, promotes scouting activities, and opens its doors to kids on Armory Days, among countless other programs, providing strong positive role models for the young kids. Calls have been answered to defend America in every war. From the War of Independen...
The Coast Guard, for instance, rescued some 34,000 people in New Orleans alone, and many ordinary citizens commandeered boats, offered food and shelter, and did whatever else they could to help their neighbors. Yet the government–particularly the federal government–seemed unprepared for the disaster. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) took days to establish operations in New Orleans, and even then did not seem to have a sound plan of action. Officials, even including President George W. Bush, seemed unaware of just how bad things were in New Orleans and elsewhere: how many people were stranded or missing; how many homes and businesses had been damaged; how much food, water and aid was needed. Katrina had left in her wake what one reporter called a “total disaster zone” where people were “getting absolutely
If a critical incident should occur, the response and recovery from emergency situation can expense a significant monetary incurrence. Establishments that have put NIMS into operation are eligible to recuperate any portion of their operative expense from the federal government. “Additionally, NIMS offers a predefined, yet flexible, organizational structure that can be altered, as necessary, to ensure maximum effectiveness during small operations or complex responses and extended in scope if an incident grows in size” (Fazzini, 2009, p. 15). The flexibility of NIMS can be adjusted to accommodate operational function of the incident, geographical boundaries, or a consolidation of

Readiness is of the utmost importance with training being the most significant aspect that contributes to Readiness. Each Soldier needs an individual training plan. The plan should take the Soldier from enlistment to discharge or retirement. It is each Soldiers responsibility to be proficient in their field craft. This includes being fit mentally and physically, and trained to win in a complex world. It is the responsibility of the NCO to train these Soldiers. Unit training plans will address the readiness and resilience of individual Soldiers to ensure their fitness to accomplish their mission. Units must conduct realistic training at the individual, squad, platoon and company levels focused on Mission Essential Tasks (METs) for their
Throughout history the United States Coast Guard (USCG) has played a significant role in securing our coasts and protecting our borders. The objectives of the USCG are to provide protection of maritime economy and the environment, save those in peril, and defend our borders in oceanic regions, lakes and inland waterways. The missions of the USCG are far more diverse than the other military services. Over its lifetime the USCG has evolved its roles over the course of its long history from intercepting illegal goods to focusing on safe travel and aiding navigation. It is the smallest of the five armed forces of the United States and is the nation’s oldest agency and it’s the only military department under the Department of Homeland Security,
