The purpose of my test is to measure whether a person falls on the spectrum of being a more introverted or extroverted being. Introversion can be defined as someone who keeps more to themselves and prefers being alone, rather than in large groups. While extroversion can be seen as someone who is more outgoing and prefers to be around bigger groups of people. Ambivert is a category as well, in which someone can fall right in the middle between the two. The target audience for this test is high school students, particularly ninth and tenth grade students. After the participant has taken the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), the participants are given their results (scores). The results are in form of a bar graph, as well as numbers of how they performed in form of a scale. At times, there are some cases of confusion which may result due to the confusion of the numbers leading to some similarity in the trait theory. As stated earlier, this concept of measurement is mainly used by psychologists in making decisions when the difference between two test scores is significant and when the difference is inconsequential. Therefore, during MBTI testing, it is important to come up with a standard error of measurement which will help in determining whether a certain value represents a substantial difference between two people having different personalities. Through standardization, it will be possible to draw a concise difference between two personalities which are close to one another. My score on extraversion was 22, low again compared to the norm. For this trait, I agreed with my results at first, but after some thinking I realized although I am introverted, I do behave extravertly sometimes. In general, I prefer working alone, staying indoors, and I don’t like being around a lot of people. For example, when given a group project, I’d prefer working on my own. Yet most of the time, I end up being the group leader because I get along well with people and am usually optimistic. Basically, I prefer settings with less people, but I can mingle well with strangers at parties or functions. Most of my friends and myself included, would say I am extraverted because I make friends easily and am usually very happy and cheerful. But that is only partially true because I do behave differently depending on the situation and my role as a friend, student, employee, etc. Therefore, I don’t agree with my results overall. When I took the MBTI, some of the things I knew about myself were reinforced, and I also learned some new things about myself and my personality. The four letter code that I received was ISTJ, representing introversion, sensing, thinking, and judging. I expected each of these preferences, and when I read the definition of each, it further strengthened my understanding of what my personality really means in “technical terms.” My four letter code came with titles such as the Duty Fulfiller, the Responsible Realist and the Inspector, names I also agree that pertain to myself. Some of the attributes of an ISTJ personality type include serious and quiet, dependable, well-organized, hard-working, goal-striving, determined, logic-based, orderly, and traditional. If I were asked to describe myself, I would more than likely use nearly all of these terms to do so, which goes to show how accurate this test was, for me at least. But, I also can pick out some challenges that may arise because of the personality type that I am. One example relates to being an introvert, who prefer to focus on one thing at a time.

This particular test can result in sixteen different outcomes or types of personalities, which is determined by four different categories that judge if you are introverted or extroverted, use your senses or your intuition, your choice to think or use your feelings, and finally if you are judgmental or perceptive. These series of questions are designed to judge our personalities and help us to determine which career pathways we will be most suited for based on our personality traits and abilities to work well with others, which is important for our future decisions.
