At the start of this class, we were assigned our first minor essay; a journal entry dealing with our personal writing experience. I can remember thinking, “oh my god!” It was only the first week and we were already writing an essay. Wracked with nerves, I knew there was no way to handle the situation besides getting it over with. Although I felt very averse I submitted the paper and awaited the results. As I waited for the feedback, I could not help but think the worst. However, to my surprise, the feedback was not what I had anticipated. I was simply instructed to view the rubric for additional guidance.
Over the rest of the course, the essays became trickier and trickier for me, or so I thought. Not only were we required to compose three different types of essays, but they first had to be submitted as drafts for review. My first impression of this was not good. To ensure that my work continues to progress properly, I assign myself little writing projects to complete within each week and my work is improving at an acceptable rate because of this. Though I continue to struggle periodically with grammar and punctuation, it is a process like any other.
I am happy with my current progress in my writing, but I would definitely like to be a lot better. I know that writing takes time and I am allowing myself time to grow as a writer instead of rushing things. Possessing adequate writing skills is a journey I am proud to be in the forefront of embarking on. I am currently in the process of setting short term goals for my writing. There is a milestone for every three months that fully intend on accomplishing. I would like to thank Ms. K for all of her constructive criticism, and support throughout this course.
