I have never taken the time to really sit down and look at myself as a person. I tend to think inside the box, I’m either good or bad. I don’t take into consideration all of the different parts of me. While taking test after test I have learned so many attributes and strengths that I behold and it gives me hope that I can succeed in school, work, and my personal life by focusing on my strengths and working towards what already works for me.
My results from the Strengths Finder Test are as follows; futuristic, deliberative, discipline, consistency, and restorative. I definitely agree with futuristic. My future is what motivates me. I am always thinking about what I can do now to make a better and brighter future for myself and be successful and happy. I agree with deliberative as well. I tend to be a serious person and I am always looking for the next mistake so that I can fix or prevent it right away. I don’t like when things go sideways, which is weird because I tend to procrastinate and those usually go hand in hand. Discipline is something that is very important to me and I agree with this 100%. I like to have a plan and I like each part of that plan to have a plan. Being organized and ready for what comes next is important to me so I believe that this is very true to my personality. Consistency is another attribute that describes me pretty well. I like balance and I like when people are treated fairly. Lastly there is restorative. I like solving problems and finding a solution when needed, although I do not necessarily seek out a problem to try to fix it. I tend to solve problems when they are brought to my attention.

...me. I feel that leaving with a certificate and associates degree with good grades will make me feel accomplished and successful. Plus it will help lead me to transferring to a university to further my education in business and open up more doors for my career.
Long Term Goal:
I want to have $4,000 saved up by September of 2016 so I can trade in my car and buy a new Toyota Hybrid. I have been thinking about getting a new car and what I should get and I have come to the conclusion that getting a hybrid would be my best option. I want to attend Seattle U after completing RTC and that will be a long commute since I want to be living at home. I think that this will help a lot and save me money in gas. It will also add responsibility to my plate having a car payment and I am definitely ready for that, as more responsibility is part of growing up and becoming an adult.
First, by reading over my results it was very helpful to understand why I like putting others before myself, defending those who need it, and always serving others because I am the defender and that’s what 13% of the people around the world do. It is also helpful to understand why I am shyer and introverted because I put others before myself and I serve them. I also felt that by knowing what I am stronger at or weaker of so I know how to approach any situation in the future. The one thing that I found to be least helpful is that even though I know my negative traits, it will be very hard to break those habits because those qualities define who I am. I have realized that to be an effective contributor to an organization, there are a numerous breadth of qualities to be desired. In obtaining the results from the personality tests, I have a better perception of my strengths and weaknesses within my personality. This will allow me to have a new perspective on how and why I behave in particular situations. Therefore, I know what my weaknesses are and work to be stronger in those particular areas.
It took me a little while to think on some of the questions because I had to think about what the true answer was and not just how I wanted to view myself. I’d say most of the results are accurate except for competition and significance. They do not describe my personality because I’m a pretty laid back person and I do not like to measure myself according to other achievements because it would drive me crazy to live my life that way. After taking the assessment, my five strengths were determined to be achiever, maximizer, input, arranger, and relator (Gallup StrengthsFinder, 2012).
I feel like this is an accurate assessment of my personality and I think this is a characteristic that will be beneficial to me when I am in the counseling profession. This is a characteristic that I relate to counselors and advocating for clients. Empathy was listed as my second strength. Empathy means being able to sense or feel other’s feelings and being able to imagine yourself in another person’s situation. In today’s society, people like to believe they are different or unique; however, we all share the same qualities as far as our weaknesses and strengths go. While one group’s greatest strength might be forgiveness, it might be another group’s greatest weakness. It is important for people to know what their greatest weaknesses and strengths are because these qualities help define who people are. Furthermore, it is crucial for people to not only focus on their negative qualities, but to also focus on their positive qualities. Upon taking the “VIA Survey of Character Strengths,” I learned what my top five strengths are, how my weakest strength is also one of my top strengths, and how I already incorporate them into my everyday life.
I think my main strength is Life Purpose and Service. I am fulfilling my reason for being here by continuing my education at the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point and in having chosen my major, Clinical Lab Science. Part of the reason I chose this major is because I enjoy helping people and am passionate about the field. I love helping people in any way I can, I have volunteered for many organizations such as City on a Hill, a volunteer organization where underprivileged people can go to receive food, and health care (physicians, eye doctors, podiatrists, etc). I also volunteer with youth groups in church (Music and Drama camp and Vacation Bible School). I find a significant purpose and fulfillment out of helping others.
In completing the Reflected Best Self Exercise, I feel I not only have a better understanding of my strengths but also a better understanding of how others view my strengths. My best self portrait shows the underlying factors that show who I am and I see many aspects of it present in my every day life. Everyday is a battle with anxiety and depression, but a battle I win. After completing the Clifton strength finders test, I learned my dominant strengths and it gave me a sense on what areas I am strong in. It allows you to work in the areas that you are good in and not in the ones you might not be as strong in. My top five strengths were learner, connectedness, belief, positivity, and includer. A lot of these I figured I would have because I am an athlete and I love to be positive. That is good because I practice these strengths every day which in turn will make me better at them and will allow me to use them in my career.
For personal and professional growth, given my personality traits, I need to embrace my strengths and weaknesses.
