Strengths
Strengths are “qualities or features that bring power, force, vigor, or sustenance” (Millard 126). Simply, Strengths are what I am good at. I often wonder, for what are my strengths good. Paul, writing to Timothy, says, “But the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it” (New International Version, 2 Timothy 4.17). My strengths, however odd or useless they might seem, are to be used to honor The Alpha and Omega.
I talk about my strengths because it curses me to talk about my weaknesses. When I focus on my weaknesses, they weigh me down. I should not look at my shortfalls, but at my strengths. My faults, no matter how grand, cannot compare to the Strength I possess, given to me by the Sovereign Lord, to serve Him.
I am skilled at many things Spiritually, Psychologically, Emotionally, Physically, and Intellectually (Millard 130). These Domains interact with each other markedly. Like baking a pie, an ingredient left out makes merely distasteful mush. Imagining someone who isolates these fields from each other is imagining a patient taken mentally ill. Society has insane asylums for these types of people.
The five Strength Domains have four Dimensions to them. There are things with which one is born, things one has learned, and things one must practice (Millard 131). These three dimensions describe how an ability is acquired. The fourth Dimension describes how one feels toward the Domain (Millard 131). A person could be a fantastic basketball player, but find basketball comparable to putting a round peg in a round hole, like Augustus Waters in The Fault In Our Stars (Green 30).

It is only in the Deep South of this country that I find this black culture. I have to keep my eyes upon the truth: they are God’s children too.

After reading Strengths Finder 2.0 by Tom Rath, I learned that there are thirty four different themes that one could have as strengths. Each strength has its own positive that allow people to better work with the people who have this style of strengths. Another key topic that I learned is that everyone has their own types of personal strengths. The main principle that was taken away from reading this book was that the old phrase of “You can be anything you want to be” is not a true statement (p. 6). We are all taught this idea at a very young age and it tends to stick with us for the rest of our lives. Forced by the past, most people are required to try to fix their weaknesses, but not improve on our strengths. We cannot truly be anything we want to be because we are not built this way. We are programmed to tend to stick with things that we are good at and when thrown at a task similar to the one we are good at we do not just excel at the other task. By sticking to increasing our strengths that we already have instead of fixing our weaknesses, we will be able to become a better human being because we are better the things in which we are good at.
...ves the body. All of these aspects we have but we do not have them in all the areas. Some people may be good musicians but may not be the best athletes, or some athletes may not be the best public speakers. People have noticed that I have the gift of oratory because the way I can speak to a crowd and convey my information I needed to share.
Strengths Finder 2.0 uses an online assessment to evaluate the individuals unique talents by having the taker rate how they view a particular question in 20 seconds or less (Rath, 2007). After taking the assessment, my five strengths were determined to be achiever, maximizer, input, arranger, and relator (Gallup StrengthsFinder, 2012).
After taking the Gallup Strength test and having conversations with other people with different strength, I realized how my strengths helped me build my identity. My strengths are Restorative, Responsibility, Strategic, Belief, and Deliberative. These strengths awaken my spiritual eyes to understand what God has created me to be. The Restorative strength focuses on solving problems, the Responsibility strength focuses on taking ownership for successes and failures. The Strategic strength focuses on identifying the true route of a problem. The Belief strength focuses on unchangeable core values. The Deliberative strength focuses on personal consciousness of the mind. These strengths evaluates my character as a responsible, logical, and compassionate man.
My five strengths according to the strength finder include; balance, this helps me be aware of treating all people equally regardless of the situation. I am neither in anyone 's favor or against anyone as this to me is selfishness and individualism. This would result in a situation where some people scale heights due to connections while others are lagging behind. I believe that a consistent environment where the rules apply to everyone is the best for individuals to function best (Rath, 2007). Flexibility is my next strength. By knowing that things do not always work out as planned has helped me change the tactics of how I perform my tasks. I do not always expect to have a smooth flow of opportunities or accomplish goals, but
I think my main strength is Life Purpose and Service. I am fulfilling my reason for being here by continuing my education at the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point and in having chosen my major, Clinical Lab Science. Part of the reason I chose this major is because I enjoy helping people and am passionate about the field. I love helping people in any way I can, I have volunteered for many organizations such as City on a Hill, a volunteer organization where underprivileged people can go to receive food, and health care (physicians, eye doctors, podiatrists, etc). I also volunteer with youth groups in church (Music and Drama camp and Vacation Bible School). I find a significant purpose and fulfillment out of helping others.
My strengths include an uncanny open-mindedness and an unrelenting kindness and gratitude towards my fellow humans. If I was to ever have any true weaknesses trying to hard is the first one. My need to be a perfectionist sometimes gets the best of me; I strive for excess in all areas of my life. I think it is of the most importance to understand your strengths and weakness. I’ve improved my strengths through exposure and emphasis. From the beginning I always found a passion in my school’s Gay-Straight Alliance, I went on to lead them for the last two years. I am an exceptional member of my school’s National Honor’s Society, and I have done more than what is expected of me at my job at Hy-Vee and have been proud to do so. My abilities and performances have taught me a lot throughout life and I have discovered who I am and what I can be. I have found that I am a leader. I have found that I am in control of the situations I find myself in. I’ve grown throughout my trials by finding the lesson in every circumstance. I am adaptable and continually grow from my misgivings. I choose to see the glass half full and see in the positive. Every weakness that I have is a strength waiting to be built upon. To uphold these standards for myself I will need to draw upon all that I
Through taking the assessment I learned that my top 3 strengths are social, language, and self. (Literacynet, 2016) My strongest strength was knowledge of self, scoring a 4.43. (Literacynet, 2016) People who have this strength enjoy alone time to think things through. They also like working on projects by themselves, learning through “trial and error”. My second strongest strength was language, scoring a 4.14, (Literacynet, 2016) this is basically saying people with this strength have a love for words, seeing them in books, writing and talking, even story telling. My last of my three strengths was social, scoring a 4.13, (Literacynet, 2016) meaning people with this skill like to talk and have good “social” skills, and like talking to and learning from others.
Millions use StrengthsFinder for its unique capacity in charting any individual’s top five talents. The ability to uncover one’s particular set of talents is a discovery that can lead to further development and wisdom in one’s life.
Usually strengths are known for being positive factors that support healthy development in the individual and in their environment (Roebank, 2007, p. 6). There have been studies done by prevention researchers that have found that strengths can be a as a protective mechanism. Some strengths can include hope, courage, honesty, optimism, and faith. Another factor to look at is how strengths are affected by an individual’s environment. A person’s positive environments, such as families, communities, or culture, are important contributions to the outcomes of their strengths (Roebank, 2007,
Everyone has strengths and weaknesses. As Roth states in Strengths Finder 2.0, we as a present day world tend to focus on and try to overcome our weaknesses rather that building up our strengths. Using our natural talents can help us do the best we can and help us be a better asset. After taking the strengths assessment, I found that my top five strengths themes ended up being: relator, discipline, competition, responsibility, and significance.
After completing the Clifton strength finders test, I learned my dominant strengths and it gave me a sense on what areas I am strong in. It allows you to work in the areas that you are good in and not in the ones you might not be as strong in. My top five strengths were learner, connectedness, belief, positivity, and includer. A lot of these I figured I would have because I am an athlete and I love to be positive. That is good because I practice these strengths every day which in turn will make me better at them and will allow me to use them in my career.
strength of someone or something”. The aspect we will be focusing on later will be truth, but for
Strength is a term with many definitions. What does strength mean? Anyone can sit down and start to write down their strengths but, how many different types of strengths are there? There are personal strengths, mental strengths, and spiritual strengths that all have a positive effect on people’s lives. Throughout life, strength is what helps overcome the problems we face. Strength is defined by Dictionary.com as “a good or beneficial quality or attribute of a person or thing.” No matter what kind of strength different people in society have; strength is something gained through personal experiences and life. Strength is having the mind set to overcome all of life’s challenges and battles.
I believe that life is a learning experience and being able to recognize our own strengths and weaknesses can help us become better individuals in anything we choose to do, whether it is positive abilities and skills that can help achieve our goals or negative personal areas that need improvement. Knowing yourself and what you can do, can help you recognize and overcome your weaknesses.
