Football Hardships My senior year of football was one to forget. High school sports are supposed to be the best time of our lives. It is a time where you make friends and create a brotherhood with your teammates. Football in particular, the sport that supposedly builds character and family. Of course everyone goes through hardships and has struggles; but overall, it is about building you up and not tearing you down. It seems that my whole football career was full of upsets and hardships. I can barely count on two hands the good times I shared with my teammates. From arguing all the time, to losing every game, to being dismissed from the team and having a young coach who has never played football; my football career was something I would never want to relive. Every freshman who plays football forever dreams of the day they become seniors so they no longer have to deal with hazing or initiations or even picking equipment up after practice. The problems that you hear about high school football are not made up and they happen at almost every school. It is hard to get away from but at my school everything was three times harder. You would think we could catch a break but we never did. We were so bad that we even lost to a team who had a smaller roster than we did. If you ever played football you would know how hard it would be to go through the hard times that I did. But, it is not the end of the world. Everyone says high school is the best time of your life, which is true, but once it is over everything seems to get better because the high school drama is over. I was so glad to have ended my senior year because now that I am in college I do not have to worry about the hard times I went through. Always cherish the good times but never forget the bad times because if you do not learn from the hard times them history will repeat
Fantasy football started at the Milford Plaza Hotel in New York City. A man named Wilfred “Bill” Winkenbach invented fantasy football. He was an Oakland area businessman and a partner with the Oakland Raiders. He met with three friends who were all a part of the Raiders organization. They met in Winkenbach’s hotel room and cracked some brews then Bill started talking about a game he thought of that involved the PGA tour and Major League Baseball. The league focused on AFL skill players and it was called the GOPPPL (Greater Oakland Professional Pigskin Procrastinators League). High school football is very risky! There are so many ups and downs about this sport in particular. Many people would say it is dangerous for these young boys to play football though others will have a different outlook on it. Football is truly not that dangerous and it can be very helpful for some boys in various ways including, scholarships, personality and a learning experience.

Thesis: The NCAA needs to change the way the division one football playoff bracket is set up. Introduction: There is an obvious problem if teams are undefeated and only get a bowl game, and not a chance to even show that they are the best team in College football.
On Sundays in the fall people all over the world are watching pro football. But do they know how it came to be or how the rules have gotten to be the way they are today? Most people don’t, so I am going to tell you all about it.
Burleigh states, “College ball is dangled as one way out of poverty for big athletic kids. The pot of gold is alluring, and it’s hard not to blame kids for choosing the sport.” (612). Colleges offer scholarships which are a chance at a free education, an opportunity of a lifetime with a possibility of playing NFL. The fact is players will always be the property of the colleges they play for and or team owners who hired them (612). Each and every year there are thousands, upon thousands that dream the dream of playing collegent or professional football. It may be easier to win the lottery, than a spot on an NFL roster. Now add in the potential of serious injury, or a fatality, because the odds without injury are enormous and then a glimmer of the dream dims. There is no guarantee on any level that there will be a success. One devastating injury and the scholarship is rescinded, the player released and the contract isn’t worth the paper it’s written on. Now your education or career is over.
The Steelers were founded by Arthur J. Rooney on July 8, 1933. The Steelers are the 7th oldest team in the NFL. They also have won 6 super bowls which is the most out of all the other NFL teams. In 1970 is when the Steelers started one of the greatest streaks ever! They earned 8 consecutive playoff berths. The Steelers have one superbowls back to back twice the only team to ever do that! The list of Pittsburgh Steelers heroes of the 1970s is long but it begins with Head Coach Chuck Noll who took control of the team in 1969. Amazing players such as defensive tackle Joe Greene, linebackers Jack Ham and Jack Lambert, quarterback Terry Bradshaw, cornerback Mel Blount and running back Franco Harris were the backbone of a team that many insist was the finest ever in pro football. Noll later on became a pro hall of famer. Following the 2006 season, Cowher resigned and was replaced by Mike Tomlin, who in his second season led the team to victory in Super Bowl XLIII. The win marked their sixth championship in franchise history as the Steelers became the first team to win six Super Bowls.
College football has become big business. With the CEO’s of the universities, oops I mean “Presidents and Deans” bringing in the big money. It’s a genius idea really. They bring in millions of dollars each year and do not have to pay their employees, so it’s a hundred percent profit. Yes, they say they pay their players by giving them the value of a free education. How free is it? Not just on Saturdays but every day of the week the players but their own personal safety, emotional state, and life on the line. Half the time don’t even have time to go to the classes, but it’s okay the school clears them or sets up classes that are just on paper. Don’t even have time to eat somedays. Have to constantly deal with scrutiny from the media and student body. Even Scrutiny from the NCAA, because oh no you took $100 from your uncle to eat that week. Get trotted around by their somewhat respected school like a walking billboard. I have seen all of this first hand as I played college football for two years. It's been brought up time and time again. The majority of coaches think it's a great idea, I mean most coaches bring in million plus dollar contracts. That’s beside the point though. The NCAA still balks every time at the idea because it would cut into their profit margin and the lining of their own damn pockets. So, with boosters and agents running rampant giving players exactly what they want, the issue is no longer a question. Pay the players now.
High school football is not as simple as a topic as everyone brings it out to be. Even if you are not a professional player things can be quite dangerous, and kids could still get seriously injured or even die due to the affects football. High school football may bring in a lot of money, but it doesn’t even bring in enough to cover its own costs. Lots of people say that McKeel should have a football team, and it would be a better school because of it, but the truth is that McKeel should not have a football team.
Football is a game of adversity and emotion. People who have not played a sport or follow one closely don’t understand the emotion behind game. In stadiums, parks and fields all across America, many youth participate in a journey through defeat, heartbreak, hard work, and success. Practicing for hours, rain or shine, to be able to snag that game winning touchdown in the back of the endzone. Although football comes with many risks and dangers, I strongly believe that kids and teens should be allowed to play football because it promotes leadership, teamwork, and requires significant amounts of exercise and cardiovascular activity, and other contact sports are just as dangerous.
Despite not being a football student athlete, but as a student athlete in general we live up to high standards. Meeting the University academic expectations on a daily basis is not the easiest thing to do. In terms of waking up in the morning to lift, go to class, and then go to practice in the afternoon you are done for the day mentally wise. But your day does not stop, you have that needs to be done for your classes, and that’s where the University holds you to a standard over students who are not student athletes. I am the first to admit that my freshman year as a student athlete was not the easiest. I thought many of times that I was going to fail, but the resources that were provided I used that to the fullest to be successful. Once again, after a successful season, Shadle Park was defeated by a Big 9 school in the first game of the regional tournament. This reoccurring event has led many to believe that the four year football program puts GSL students at a disadvantage compared to other districts. A junior high school football program would not only increase the competitiveness of the students but also have more important consequences.
Sadly, my family was going through financial struggles, forcing me out of the school zone I was destined to attend. When I discussed the situation wih the high school coaches they told me they would pick me up from my new house and take me to school every day; with the condition that I’d play football for them all throughout high school. Even though this was illegal I continued to go ahead and accept the offer. My first year of high school was so exciting that it went by in the blink of an eye. Sophomore year came and the clock ticked closer and closer to when everything would change. I started in varsity as a corner back but soon would have big shoes to fill as the team’s quarterback. Not only did this require skill and hard work but the ability and qualities of a leader as well. Ultimately, playing this position helped me acquire traits that would soon be necessary for success. That year was tough for us because the majority of the team consisted of inexperienced players, however the coaches knew I would be the one to lead the
Sports psychology is the study of how psychology influences sports, athletic performance, exercise and physical activity. Some sports psychologists work with professional athletes and coaches to improve performance and increase motivation. Other professionals use exercise and sports to enhance people’s lives and well-being. While finding ways to help athletes is certainly an important part of sports psychology, the application of exercise and physical activity for improving the lives of non-athletes is also a major focus.
The past four years have been fun and easy for some and a struggle for others. When I reflect on my high school experience, I think of watching football games, playing softball, homecoming weeks, school trips, parties and time with my friends. Others have spent their time in drama, band, community service, part-time jobs and all sorts of other activities. We have all watched Mr. LHS grow along with us until it became a big part of the high school year. I enjoyed laughing with and at the guys as they showed off their talents. This year’s homecoming football game was one of the most exciting ones we have had, with four quarters and three overtimes when we beat Jackson 48 to 42 for a homecoming victory. No matter what types of experiences we have had, I think they are important to remember and grow from.
