After taking the class Leadership Development, I believe that each objective was met based on the syllabus for this course. Not only have I learned a lot about what it takes to be a leader in the teaching community, I have also learned things that can benefit me in my personal life. This paper is based on my reflection of the class. Life is hard and putting teaching as a career into your life can sometime add on another level of stress. The reality of teaching can hit you all at once when you first step into the classroom. You may realize that teaching is not as fun as you thought it would be. Teacher’s leadership roles are based on the understanding that teachers because they have daily contacts with learners, are in the best position to make critical decisions about the students. Teachers need to create a positive learning relationship between them and the students. Teachers can do this by establishing classroom routines and expectations that directly affect the student by engaging the student in the learning process. To be a great leader in the classroom, you must allow the children to lead sometime. Early experiences in life affect children’s leadership potential. Children must have the skills to understand and to deal with others, the skill to discover ways to create problem solving situations, organization skills, the skill to be flexible, and creativity skills. You as teachers can inspire leadership skills by showing children how to create strength to get the job done, helping them learn how to encourage others to do their best, and by encouraging them to pursue things that interest them.
