Introduction: The Problem Thank You, Mr. Rokita for taking the time to read my proposal letter. One of the most highly talked about topics of conversation, and one of the most crucial aspects in the pursuit of happiness is healthcare. This topic is important as we know that the “baby boomer” generation has already begun to retire. People are living longer. One day, if we are lucky enough, you and I may live long enough that we will require long term care. An article that I read recently written by Madeline Lorentz, Ph.D. and Brittany Finnegan, MPH point out that the elderly population is growing rapidly and will make up 20% of the population by 2030. I would like to propose a few changes in our healthcare that would improve the lives of a large number of people. These changes would be: offer more grants to a larger number of students seeking a degree in a nursing field, strengthen laws to mandate better nurse to patient ratios, create laws where this is none to allow for faster and easier processing of administrative tasks, and mandate continuous training for those in the healthcare field.
Body: Your Proposal The first proposal that I would like to make is a $5,000 dollar per year grant for all perspective nursing students to attend either a two-year or four-year institution to receive a degree in nursing. Education has always been very important, but also costly. There has been a shortage of nurses all across the country that gets worse every year. My wife, who is a Registered Nurse in a long term health care facility did no...

...r something to be taken lightly. Education is always an investment for the future. There are many long term benefits that will actually save money over the long term. Utilizing the more electronic method of data keeping and eliminating errors will save companies money by needing less staff. Additional training as well as better patient to nurse ratios will show a savings with less accidents and lawsuits. State funded programs such as Medicaid and Medicare will realize a significant savings due to these increased safety measures that have been discussed. The best way to start the process of solving these problems is by getting more people interested in the healthcare field which the additional grant money will help.
Sincerely,
