Every institution has a mission statement, organizational philosophy or principles which they use to guide faculty, staff and administrator to stay focus on their work and to carry out the mission and vision of the organization. When clearly expressed, these statements help keep the institution on a clear pathway towards achieving their goals and fulfilling the mission. My philosophy on leadership is that it takes great ability, responsibility, skills and a community to translate the vision and mission of a community college and turn it into a reality. Being an administrative leader in a community college, I can help students, faculty and staff turn dreams into real life success.
My mission is to serve everyone in the community college and use core values to maintain the vision. It is my primary duty to honor and serve the institution and help my faculty and staff with job-related discouragements and discontents such as, loss of confidence or interest and passion. Also giving them a sense of worth as employees at the institution, and also reward them for their performance or the work that they have accomplished at the institution. “Each member of the college helps to shape the college’s culture; how employees perceive the purpose of the college and their contribution to that purpose is the basis for the institution’s climate and culture, any change can affect their perceptions of purpose and their role as a members of the college community generally seen as threatening or at least disturbing” (Myran, Baker, Simone & Zeiss, 2003, p. 127).

When I am working as an administrator at a community college my mission and vision would not be focusing only on my department, faculty and staff, but on the students as well. Students need a leader who can teach them how to become a successful servant leader and how to leader others. Active listening builds trust and relationships and it helps me as a leader to understand the political environment in each and every department in the institution. I want to be a leader who will take time to listen to the problems and issues that the students are facing and come up with different strategies to fix the problems. I will provide workshops that can help students improve in their studies and order new materials and supplies which students can use in the classroom.
