Everyone has a different view on what they think leadership is to them. Leadership to me is being able to guide people in a certain direction to reach a common goal. That person should know how to make sure everyone is involved in a process and that things run smoothly. According to The Student Leadership Challenge, Leadership is modeling the way, inspiring a shared vision, challenging the process, enabling others to act, and encouraging the heart. Throughout my whole life, my mom and dad have always tried to push me to be my own person and to take control. I tried very hard to listen to them, but most times I found myself following the path made by others. I’m not the type of person to take control for fear that I may hurt someone’s feelings or make anyone upset. A person can’t be a leader if they don’t have any followers. There are some people, who are natural leaders, but not everyone is cut out to be a leader; And deciding whether you’re a leader or a follower, only you can pick.
In my leadership class we had to take a strength finder test and write a paper on what we found. My top five strengths that I received after taking it was optimism, integrity, teamwork, faith, and salesmanship. My bottom weakness that I need to work on is self-motivation. When I took this quiz I thought that it wasn’t going to be very accurate because most quizzes like that online aren’t, but it actually hit the nail on the head!
I believe that I can help everyone stay positive about things in our perspective class and that I will be able to work with anyone. I may not have the same beliefs as them, but I am willing to accept that and treat them with respect. I do have a lot of integrity and even in high school I won most dependable. When I work in gr...

My personal leadership philosophy would be to be all you can be. As long as you give things one hundred percent, you can’t be mad at yourself. Being a leader is a lot of responsibility, but anyone is capable of being one. As we read that leadership book in class, it really opened my eyes to all of the qualities a leader must possess in order to be a successful one. I just hope that one day, I will no longer be a follower, but a strong leader.

My Leadership Philosophy Essay

- Leaders do not just appear out of thin air and automatically start making great things happen in the world. A leader must learn from prior leaders or role models that they are surrounded by that they look up to. Not everyone can be a leader, only some people have the correct characteristics it takes to lead others in the right direction. Those who do great things, for example volunteering at a homeless shelter, are not leaders. Many people mistake a “great person” as being a leader, which is completely incorrect (Kouzes and Posner, p....   [tags: Leadership Philosophy Essays]

Developing a Leadership Philosophy Essay

- Developing a Leadership Philosophy It is very telling that one of our last activities focuses on reflection and communication. It is telling because these are the two characteristics emphasized throughout each of my leadership classes. Reflection deals with a leader’s ability to internalize learning. Communication incorporates a leader’s ability to develop relationships and influence them effectively. I firmly believe both characteristics are the keys to effective leadership. A number of experts concur believing that a leader must start with knowledge of oneself and develop that into an ability to communicate, share ideas, visions, and listen to others....   [tags: Developing a Philosophy of Leadership]

Leadership : My Leadership Philosophy Essay

- Leadership Philosophy My leadership philosophy is quite simple. I follow the Golden Rule, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” This simple process has guided me through some of the most difficult decisions I have had to make as a leader. According to Field Manual 6-22, “Leadership is the process of influencing people by providing purpose, direction, and motivation while operating to accomplish the mission and improving the organization” (United States, 2006 p. 2). I completely agree with this definition of leadership....   [tags: Leadership, Decision making, Sergeant, Mr. T]

What Is Leadership Philosophy? Essay

- What is leadership philosophy. According to Col William DeMarco, a leadership philosophy is similar to an organizational mission statement but on a singular level. “It lets people know what you expect, what you value, and how you will act; with the additional benefit of making the organization more productive like a compass it helps keep you, the leader, on course.” This paper will cover three elements. I will begin by discussing my leadership philosophy and my opinion on “a boss vs. a leader.” I will then provide a summary followed by an analysis of an interview I conducted with an Army battalion-level commander concerning his most challenging leadership issue....   [tags: Leadership, Decision making, Decision theory]

Personal Leadership Philosophy Essay

- In developing this idea of what leadership is, I examined what was most important to me in being a leader. Since leadership is such a broad term, this could not be a process whereby I could generalize leadership for everyone. Rather, the task is to determine who I am as a leader. I asked myself, what is it that shapes the vision. What are the factors that comprise a leader, and what makes these things add up to create something larger than ourselves as leaders. Thoughtful reflections on these things lead me to generate the following definition of leadership: Leadership is about more than simply having followers; it is not a title, and it is not achieved by just following a few p...   [tags: definition of leadership]
