My grandmother was a woman like no other. Her name is Mary Jane, she is funny, charismatic, honest, Godly, beautiful, someone I could truly call my best friend. My twin sister Vanessa and I would spend every summer at my grandma 's house from the time we were born till the time we were 17 years old. It was a summer trip that we looked forward to every year. My grandma would call us her angels and would take us with her everywhere she went. She would take us to work with her, the bingo, the grocery store, the laundry mat; where ever she was we had to be there also. When ever the summer came to an end, my sister and I dreaded it. We never wanted to leave grandmas house. That was our favorite place to be. Grandma would always re-assure us that it was time for …show more content…
My parents said "well ok, why not get all the family together", so they did just that. My parents threw a giant party at my Aunt Luci 's house. She has a swimming pool, a hot tub, a cabana with lights, a sand volley ball court, the works. Her house was the perfect place for a party. The entire family was there and it was so good to see that everyone came together for a just because party. Towards the middle of the party my grandma came to the front of the pool with a picture frame. The frame was facing her so no one could see what she had. She said she wanted to make an announcement. As we all settled down and got quiet, she started talking about how she has secretly been going to college to get a degree. She said she wanted to be the best example for her kids and grandkids and the only way to do that was to make something of her self. She announced that she graduated with her doctorate in accounting and inside the frame was her diploma. She had been attending the University of Texas in Austin for 10 years and had been traveling back and forth from San Antonio to Austin 3 times a week to attend her
Grandma gave me so much wisdom; she was the smartest lady I ever knew. She had class and loyalty, courtesy and honor.
First, my grandma was significant in my life because she cared for me throughout my childhood. Whenever my parents would go out or leave town, I got to stay at my grandma’s house. I remember having lots of fun at her house because she had different toys and
My most distinct childhood memories are at my Grandma Darlene's house, a quaint trailer on the edge of Anderson. Grandma lives near the end of a tiny little dirt road and has lived there for more than thirty years. We can barely get through the door because there are mountains and mountains of boxes, clothes and barrels filled with who knows what. At the bottom of all that there is a fairly large wooden rocking bench, my great uncle made right before his wife died. Cushioning these layers upon layers of junk is a nasty, old, mated scrap of carpet. The carpet is a burnt orange, calico color that has been stepped on and had people's shoes wiped off on more times than a welcome mat. Bordering the side of the porch is a barbecue from what looks like it is from the 1950's. It's all charred and where the black paint once was now is a thick coating of orange rust. In the corners there are millions of spiders that have taken up residence.
After all what happened everything came out good. On our way to Arsenal Tech High School, that's where it was going to be. We got there, we sat in our seats. Since my sister last name starts with an A , she had made a speech for that day. After the speech was over, the principal came to make another speech. After that they started getting their diplomas. Names after names came a “woot woot” … shouts after shouts. Everyone was cheering for their love ones that were graduating, everyone was so happy and enjoying that moment. After everything was over we left outside. My mom deeply shouted in spanish “por fin mi niña ya se graudio, si lo eso”. We all looked at her surprised, i looked at her more than everyone else “umm she dont be shouting like that usually she don't shout at all but today was the day” . After everything was over, we had left off to take her pictures. Next to a water fountain we stood there. I was the one next to her, she was in the middle out of my 2 other sisters. “ 1..2..3…CHEESE !! all i saw was a flash going to our face. Wow, it was so bright in the first picture we took i came out with my eyes closed. We left, and my sister decided to go out to eat with the family. We left to go out to
My grammy was my favorite person in the world. Ever since I was a little girl I always loved her. She used to cook food for me in her small kitchen while my older cousin and I sat at the table and watched her. As I was growing up she was always someone I could go to when I needed someone to talk to. She would always keep my secrets private, and she would never pass judgment on me. She would help me through anything. My gram had a terrible back, and she was always having aches and pains. She had gotten into a car accident when she was in her thirties. The accident left her with permanent damage to her body. When she was feeling achy, I would sit on her deep blue suede couch with her, and we would watch Law and Order together. I could always laugh with my grammy, she was full of jokes. She had this game with my cousin and me when we were growing up. She would squeeze our cheeks, and we would laugh and run away from her. Old ladies loved grabbing cheeks, so she did it as a joke. She also knew we hated it; that's what made it funny. She was such a lovely woman who was full of tons of character.
She is a multi-talented women with determination and believes if you set your mind your goal there isn't anything that you can't achieve. My grandma wasn't able to be somebody that gave a lot of influence and didn't meet some of her goals, I am proud of her intelligence and how much she was able to do independently. Even as a grandma she loves to learn and presently is learning English. She is almost eighty years old and she looks like she is only sixty. Even now as a grandma, she is active and passionate about education. She encourages me to get a
We moved closer to her once I started school. My Grandma met my brother and me almost always once we got home from school. It was always welcoming to have a friendly face when you got home. She taught me how to read and write and once I was able to read she dedicated numerous books to me that she always recommended and had such a vivid story. On hot summer days she would take us to the beach and play in the water and sand, or have a great time running around on the park, or just going there to enjoy a nice picnic. We had such a long walk to our front door of numerous winding steps and she came up with a game to play down them. We called ...
hello. I smile back at her and ask what she's been up to. But I don't even
I pictured our family tradition of traveling to my grandparents' home every Sunday afternoon. Their quaint little home, white washed with baby blue shutters welcomed any stranger and had a faint honeysuckle aroma that soothed the weariest of souls. We ate lunch together with my grandfather and grandmother sitting like kings and queens at opposite ends of the table. Then everyone gathered in the family room and spent the late afternoon playing games and catching up on the big events of the week. My grandfather spent his time playing with each grandchild one at a time so we would feel special. Anyone could tell that he loved his job as a grandparent. His eyes twinkled with delight and his smile never faded as he spent time with us. He loved throwing us up in the air with his powerful arms, until we squealed with delight as our stomachs flew above our heads. ...
The familiar smell of soft cookies and homemade cooking are common thoughts when people think about their grandma's house. Great feasts and family gatherings play a part in everyone's grandmother's home. But when I really think about my grandma's house only one word comes to my mind: fun.
My aunt had been an important person in my life since I was born. She helped me a lot through rough times and always was there if I needed anything. I could always remember the big family parties we had and she would give me money for a present. She was always nice to me and was a big part in my success at anything I was doing. I even used to call her 2nd mom sometimes.
She was a social worker for families she worked for what is now called the Department of Human Services. She was a case social worker for 32 years and sadly she hated every minute of it. My grandmother did not like people and she definitely did not like the people whose cases she covered. My grandmother (late) always felt that people need to work for what they need and support themselves. She had much disdain for people who accepted assistance when they could go out and work. So after 32 years of loathing her state job she was finally able to retire and that was in 2005. She retired and with her retirement bonus check she took a 2-week vacation on a cruise to Jamaica. I was so jealous and I begged her to take me and when I did she said "Deena remember when we went to Disney world in February that was for you now this vacation is for grandma". I remember when she left we dropped her off at the airport and went back to our house to find that we were out of power. The day my grandma left for her cruise was the first day of the "blackout" of the east coast. It was the summer and it was so hot that my friend my sister and I slept outside on a mattress. It was so fun we stayed outside all day grilling, laughing, and having a good time. When my grandmother came back she had a tan, souvenirs, and a host of stories to tell. I said that I would do the same thing when I retired and take the same cruise my grandmother did. August 5,2015 my grandma past 10 years after she retired. During those years my grandma did not need or want for anything. She went shopping, out to eat, to the casino and any other place she wanted. She lived a full life before and after she retired even though God could have let me have my grandma longer than 66 years she lived a full life. She was happy and loved and well looked after and financially stable. If God would bless me like he did my grandma I would be the
This lady is the most wonderful person I 've ever met. She is old, affectionate, and intelligent. It took me eighteen years to realize how much this extraordinary person influenced my life. She 's the type of person who charms everyone with her stories and experiences. She always time for her family and friends. She is the kind of leader who does everything to keep her family together and in harmony. She is my grandmother.
When I think back to the days when I was a child, I think about all of my wonderful childhood memories. Often I wish to go back, back to that point in life when everything seemed simpler. Sometimes I think about it too much, knowing I cannot return. Yet there is still one place I can count on to take me back to that state of mind, my grandparent’s house and the land I love so much.
place I would have to go to before and after school. I have always loved my
