My goal in life is to become a kindergarten teacher. I have wanted to be a teacher since I started going to school when I was five years old. I was undecided on what grade to teach until I took teacher cadet during my senior year of high school. I decided to student teach a kindergarten class, and I was with them for six weeks. After being with those students for that period of time, I realized that I needed to be with kindergarteners. I love younger children, and I want to be able to make a difference in their lives and build relationships with them.
I want to become a teacher because I want to make a difference in a child’s life. When I was little, the only reason why I wanted to become a teacher was so I can decorate a classroom. I used to decorate the walls in my room to make it like a classroom and I would always set up my stuffed animals in rows and teach them. As I grew older, I started to understand that there is more to being a teacher than just decorating a classroom. My Spanish teacher throughout sixth, seventh, and eighth grade really opened my eyes to this. She truly cared about every student who walked in through her classroom door, and she did everything in her power to help her students succeed and have fun in her class. After being in her class for three years, I knew I wanted to be just like her as a teacher. She not only taught me plenty of Spanish, but she also taught me that being a teacher is all about making a difference in a student’s life. Even though I still look forward to decorating a classroom, I finally realized why I really wanted to be a teacher.

Their focus is on freedom and as they develop themselves they make meanings of their lives. An author named Don Hufford wrote about Existentialism in education. He stated that it is the responsibility of the teacher, in existentialist terms, to relate to the student not as an object, but as a subject, a “I”: an individual with unique potentials, motivations, and values; with highly personalized hopes, dreams, and visions of the future; intellectually capable of self-reflection (Hufford, 2010). I believe that as a teacher, it is important to motivate the students and to make them feel special. It will help them succeed in the classroom and in life. With that, they will be able to develop themselves.
