To begin, this was my first week back at Pittsburgh Faison since I left for break in December, but when I arrived I already had a connection with my cooperating teacher and some of the students; this made my first week not as stressful as it could have been. I have seen my cooperating teacher around the building, since I completed my PS2 pre-student teaching at the same school last semester. I also got to work with Mr. Attenberger during our Tuesday morning restorative practice meetings and at professional developments last semester. There was a half day last semester where I got to spend the whole morning with Mr. Attenberger, so I could see his daily routine and so we could start to build the professional relationship needed to work together. …show more content…
When I started on Tuesday those students felt comfortable working with me, and that made me feel confident. Furthermore, Mr. Attenberger only works with students in grades 3-5 that need help only in math. At Pittsburgh Faison this looks like a push in/pull out since there is no classroom for Mr. Attenberger to work in he will take the students to the hallway den to work, or pull them to the table in the back of the classroom. While observing Mr. Attenberger this week I noticed one thing that I really liked, he does not help only the students who are on his roster, he will walk around and assist any student who is struggling with the math work. This week, I noticed that typically we would stay in the classroom and work with students if the teacher was reviewing something that was already taught, and we would pull out the students if they were working on something new. When Mr. Attenberger pulls students out he usually goes over something they previously worked on to give them a little warm up, and then he will teach the students the new idea. Mr. Attenberger also teaches the …show more content…
I was beyond shocked to see one of the teachers giving his/her class a test without letting the special education teacher know there would be a test. My cooperating teacher showed me tests in the past where he altered it to fit the needs of the students he works with, since the regular education teacher gives the tests straight from the curriculum. It was very hard to watch the students take this test because there were somethings on the test they did not know how to complete. The heart wrenching part was that it wasn’t only the students on my cooperating teacher’s roster that had these problems; it was a lot of the students in the class. Mr. Attenberger stressed the fact that communication between the regular education and special education teacher is very important especially for reasons like this. We both walked in there not knowing what the test even looked like, so it was hard to be prepared to help the students who needed it. My cooperating teacher assured me that this probably only happened because it was the end of the marking period and the teacher wanted to get one last grade in, but I could tell he was just as upset as I was. He then explained to me that some teachers are harder to work with than others because they do not want the children who need extra help in their classrooms; I have heard about this being an issue but I never had to experience this until the other day and it tore
For me, the whole process went quite smoothly. I enjoyed working with Jacoby. We had a great rapport. I had the opportunity to assess the student in a minimally distracting setting and a reasonable time frame. Furthermore, Jacoby was eager to read out loud.
I am a qualified solicitor and in this role I have developed my communication skills. On one occasion I was representing a mother who was a victim of domestic violence. The father wanted to see his children but the mother was not allowing it due to the domestic violence. I acknowledged her concerns regarding the contact and explained that I understood why she would not want contact to take place. I also explained to the mother the courts view in terms of contact and domestic violence cases. I highlighted the fact that if she allowed contact without going to hearing she would still retain a level of control. I suggested that contact take place at a neutral location and be supervised by a friend or family member until she was comfortable with this arrangement. The client was reluctant but highlighted that the court would want some form of contact and she would have to adhere to this. However, by reaching an agreement outside of court she is not bound by it and will be in control. The client agreed to
When I walked into the school, I was greeted by the receptionist who kindly showed me where to sign in and then directed me to the teacher I would be observing for the day. The staff was dressed very appropriate for the day and on Friday they were able to wear pink because it was October. Although I did not see much interaction with factuality with each other, I was able to witness when the teachers of a certain grade would come to pick up their students. I saw how the teachers interacted with Mrs. Lee and they were very respectful. The student’s behavior varied from class to class. Most of the classes were well behaved with only a few students causing disruption. Mrs. Lee had warned me that the kindergarten class is normally noisier than other classes, but to her surprise the students were very quiet and did their work independently with no interruptions. Mrs. Lee did a wonderful job at keeping the students disciplined within the classroom. She would give positive re-enforcement and correct students when they would do something incorrectly. She worked really well with the students and they students responded in a respectful manner to Mrs.
Johnson is a state certified teacher who has worked in the public school system for over fifteen years. Good Grades Activity Center provides support for students in all subjects and prepares children in grades three to five for state standardized testing. There are two additional assistant teachers in the classroom including myself. In addition to the general education teacher, another individual and I provide assistance on different days, but work collaboratively when needed. Our duties consist of distributing snacks/games at the start of the session, assisting the teacher with lesson plans and helping students with homework. As you walk into the classroom you are surrounded by colorful posters, student work displayed on the wall and sticker charts waiting to be filled by hardworking
This week, I followed up with the girls who went to the activity the District offered last Friday. We talked about their goals and the things they are doing in order to meet them. I emailed the lady who did the speech and we are trying to set up a second meeting, so the girls can talk to her again. This week, I had to deal with a lot of drama with another group of girls. I believe since it is April and the school year is almost over, they are under a lot of stress and that is the reason they keep getting in trouble. Last week, the student got their grades report, so I went over their grade and we worked on the grades they need to improve. I like the fact that the students are not looking for me just because their emotional problems, but also
During my first few weeks, I met a student named Joseph. He towered over me at 6-foot-4 and weighing 300 pounds. At first, I didn't know what to expect from him.I was surprised to learn he had failed the 9th grade twice and with this being his third try he was in the same grade as his younger brother, Jason. Joe and I became friends fast. I was treated differently because of my skin color but Joe did not judge me. Through students chit-chatter, I learned Joe was very popular and on the football team but had unexpectedly quit his first year. Joe struggled with his classes especially in English and Mathematics. One day in English, another kid was struggling to read a passage aloud, the classroom was filled with snickers and the teacher made the poor kid continue. After class, Joe comforted the kid and made him smile. That was his talent,, he had the ability to make people feel better.
I sat with her every other day for the first four months of the past school year, and gave her specific expectations and examples to ensure extreme clarity. This teacher became one of our most requested staff members this year, due to her successful implementation and the step-by-step planning of the newly adopted Common Core State Standards. She truly respected the time that I took to work along her side, even though I hadn’t taught Language Arts or History at the Middle School level. The wealth of instructional strategies that I provided, alongside her content knowledge served her Steadiness Personality and Behavior style that is motivated by cooperation and sincere appreciation.
There are vast communication differences between males and females, which makes it difficult for the two sexes to maintain stable and functional relationships with each other. Areas in which these problems occur include children’s development, friendships, romantic relationships, and work environments. If these communication problems continue to persist in heterosexual relationships, our nations heterosexual divorce rates may rise well over 50% in the next few decades.
For the lead teacher interview assignment, I had the opportunity to sit down with and interview my son’s EC teacher from last year, Mrs. Hamm. Since my son started at the school last year, Mrs. Hamm has helped him in so many different ways. Mrs. Hamm has been teaching for over 20 years from her home state of Pennsylvania and more currently at Mount Energy Elementary School in Creedmoor, NC. Mrs. Hamm has been teaching at Mount Energy Elementary School in Creedmoor, NC for the last 12 years and recently awarded “Teacher of the Year”. Mrs. Hamm, up until this school year, was the main EC teacher for all grades Kindergarten through fifth grade at Mount Energy Elementary School. As of the present school year, the school district made the determination that she was over the acceptable number of students. As a result, they decided to hire an additional EC teacher and assistant to teach grades 3-5th and Mrs. Hamm would teach grades K-2. Mrs. Hamm was the teacher of 18 students until this decision was made, now with grades K-2, she has 9 students in her class.
Although I have not had much experience with school activities, I have had the great opportunity of working under my
Interpersonal communication is one of the significant skills while communicating with other individuals. It normally covers an extensive area and includes both verbal and non-verbal communication. Body language and facial expression may affect the accurateness of the message transmission directly. Interpersonal communication skills normally ensure that the message is sent and received correctly without any alteration thus improving the communication efficiency. Learning diverse aspects of interpersonal communication has greatly aided me in better understanding of what it consists. I am capable of applying the knowledge gained from this course to my personal experiences. This paper reflects on my personal experience in learning interpersonal communication.
The overall energy from the students was pretty low. One thing that I found interesting was the pattern of communication. All of the students contributed to the conversation but they rarely interacted with each other. When they spoke, it was usually directed towards the adult members of the group rather than toward each other. Each student contributed differently to the session. The student who contributed the most was JR. TY also contributed some but mostly only when he was prompted. JD on the other hand, made minimal contributions to the group conversation.
Now the communication class is almost over I have realize how important is to have good communication skills, and how it is key to life. I have learned many things in this class for example ways to approach strangers. Another thing that I have learned how to handle conflict and how sometimes it could be good it not always bad and many others. The way I look things have change to have reach my goals. This class was has also taught me how to look in the “other” perceptive, and not being selfish by just seeing one side. All that I have learn will help me and other around me to be able to communicate better.
As in all aspects of personal and professional life, having effective communication is a key element of success. Effective communication can benefit your relationships with people. By conveying your message and integrating them as a member of the team and not just a subordinate leads to better production. By effectively communicating you can clearly define job responsibilities and expectations. The better you are able to communicate the less likely organizational turnover of personnel will occur. Supervisors and leaders in the professional workplace find that the most important factor in advancement and retain ability is effective communication. Senior level executives and human resources managers are stressing the importance of communication and providing more training for mid-level management. Emphasis is placed on communication being clear by being transmitted strongly.
Effective communication of workers with other workers and their employers plays a key role in the development of a company. Various sorts of interactions take place between workers in a workplace. Some of them may seem to be included in interruptions during work. In a research dealing with these interruptions, Conaill and Frohlich (1995), their results showed that "in most cases, (64%), the recipient and the initiator received some benefit from the conversation. However in just over 40% of interruptions the recipient did not resume the work they were doing prior to the interruption." They have discussed the parameter of time space in workplace and how a person does not own it as his workspace. They occur in an unplanned manner. But, as according to the above stated statics, they do not create that much problem continuing your work as before.
