For as long as I can remember I always wanted to be a doctor and education has been the most important part of my life. Why did I choose this career path? When I was little I used to tell people it’s because I want to help people and make my parents proud. As I got older and gave it a more thought, I think the main reason for this choice is because I wanted to do something challenging and I always thought the field of science is fascinating and full of challenges. When I was in third grade, my cousin showed me a video of childbirth to gross me out but I thought it was fascinating. My favorite hobby used be going on a hunt for dead bugs and insects and tearing them limb from limb and “surgically” cut them open with my equipment (kitchen knife and mother’s old tweezers) to look at their insides as my friends cringed and watched from far. Don’t worry, I gave all the bugs proper funerals. …show more content…
Fear was my motivator. I still remember, when after one long summer break I was refusing to do homework. My mother was not having it and locked me outside the house in the dark till I promised to do it and never throw a tantrum during doing my homework. Yes, at that point I thought it was a little cruel of my mother to lock a 6-year-old out in the dark. But as I got older I understand why she did what she did. She wanted to go college and have a career but she couldn’t because her single mother could not support her financially. Instead of going to college she had to get married at the age of 19. My father also couldn’t go to college because of the financial reasons too. They have both worked very hard to support my brother and me financially and put us through college. They had provided me with the resources and I’m and going to make best of them. I am really hoping that I can make my parents proud
What they have done to foster my motivation was the way they would praise me. Like for example in Dweck, Carol S. “Brainology”: Transforming Students’ Motivation to Learn. It claims that praise might tell them that being smart and talent is the most important thing and it’s what makes you valuable. That’s when parents or teacher make mistakes they praise them wrong and all they just do is build up children’s ego. Then when they do something wrong children think they 're less and it plays with their self-esteem. But that was not my case, though, nobody never made it seem to me like being smart and talented where the most important and that’s what made someone valuable. To my mother in other hand I always had the best advice something that she would always tell me while growing up was that being smart and talented was not something you have it’s something you earn by your hard effort and so I
I left my school books inside the bottom of my desk, just as all the students had done in my class. My father was home on vacation that particular day and asked me where my books were. I replied that they were in my desk at school. That answer led to a ten minute lecture on how I was to never leave my books at school ever again. He told me that I would never succeed if I did not take schooling seriously. That was the only motivational speech I received while I was in school. That conversation affects me to this day. I bring all the books I am required to buy at the beginning of each term to my classes. I purchase my books the moment I find out what books I need for that quarter. I have always strived to excel in all the courses I take because of that conversation. My father intervening made me angry at the time; however, over time it made me reevaluate my approach to school. Yes, it was difficult to carry all those books home every day after school, especially in high school, but that was my
I was raised in an encouraging household where both of my parents greatly valued education. Although they were high school graduates, neither could afford to attend college; a combination of family and financial woes ultimately halted their path. As a result, my parents frequently reminded me that getting a good education meant better opportunities for my future. To my parents, that seemed to be the overarching goal: a better life for me than the one they had. My parents wanted me to excel and supported me financially and emotionally of which the former was something their parents were not able to provide. Their desire to facilitate a change in my destiny is one of many essential events that contributed to my world view.
Early in life I dealt with both my mother and father taking turns going in and out of jail due to their heavy drinking, Eventually my mother left for good eight years after I was born. Leaving me with my father dealing with his habit, but also realizing he had to raise three boys by himself. Through his method of parenting, work hours, and his drinking he didn't have much time to help direct me down a good path. So I never really had any motivation to do much in school, and also was terrified to try. Just to find out that I wasn't smart, or that I just couldn't do it. So now I am overcoming that fear and solidifying my volition to do well in school.
My parents have always pushed me to be better than they were. They knew that if I wanted to be successful I needed to go to college. In highschool, they always made me put my education before anything else. My parents didn’t go to college so they would always tell me to not make that mistake because their lives could have been easier if they would of just invested a few more years into their education. They would also tell me about all the opportunities that missed out on because they decided not to further their education.
You go three years of high school preparing for college and at the same time having fun. Until you are in your senior year of high school that’s when you realize and start asking your self what college do I want to go to? Or what college career I want to pursue? That’s when you notice you have but so little time to answer these questions. Me I’m in my last year of high school and I though I already knew what career I wanted to pursue, but its now that I notice that not even I know what I’m going to do with my life? All I’m sure of its that I’m going to graduate out of high school with a diploma and that I’m going to college. But what happens after that? What major did I study? Or where did I go to accomplish my goal?
I have known from an early age that I’ve wanted to become a doctor. Helping people has always been a passion of mine. When I was younger, I wanted to be a veterinarian. However, after working with young children I have found that I love working with them, and have a connection with children. Currently, I am interested in becoming either a neonatologist or a general pediatrician so I can continue to work with young children.
Why did I choose the career forensic pathology? I chose this career because I have always been a curious person, and the thought of being the one who figures out a mysterious death and giving their family closure is very exciting to me. It is a great feeling knowing you have made a difference in someone’s life, from gun wounds to suicide I feel that the family deserves to know. I knew that I wanted to solve these kinds of mysteries when uncle died and no one knew how he died, or at least they didn’t want to tell us. I later found out that the scientifically correct term for someone who investigates deaths like his is forensic pathology.
Throughout my life my mother has always been my backbone and push me to strive for excellence and be academically perfect. I was taught to go above and beyond everyone else in class and work nonstop without excuses. However, the pressure from my mom triggered a negative effect in me and I eventually shutdown. Though I still managed to finish strong I felt that I did it to please my mom. That is why going to college is so important to me because I know that I can go to college and be triumphant on my own, so right now I am pushing through adversity in an attempt to prove myself right.
I’ve had an interest in science from a young age. When I was in elementary school, I make a large binder of different animal profiles from Animal Planet and categorized them into scientific categorizations, and I read about the properties of each element in the periodic table for fun. I participated in Science Olympiad throughout middle school and high school and competed in the knowledge-based events based on biology, chemistry and physics. Of the three subjects, biology was my favorite. I had a special interest in the human body and its processes. I wanted to become a doctor because it was the profession that I thought would foster my curiosity.
As a future university student dedicated to learning and discussing as much as I can, the Honors College has been my goal since I decided to attend Alabama. Because of my intense interest in academic discussion, literature, and rhetoric, I intend to become an English teacher with my degree. I feel strongly compelled because of my intended career path to receive the most complete and thorough education to which I have access. One of the main benefits of know I wanted to be a teacher for so many years is the opportunity I have had as a student to observe others. Teaching is the one profession that young people see most regularly, and this process of being educated in the same field I wish to work has given me time to contemplate what makes a
My utmost passion for science is one of the reasons for choosing medicine. I find science a fascinating subject that encompasses all aspects of our everyday life. Indeed, I like the fact that you get to acquire something new every day.I find career in medicine as challenging marathon, which I am ready to undertake.
After my first semester of college my family took a long road trip. I had not performed well academically that semester and I had to ride the whole way with just my dad. After an hour of riding in silence my dad told me he was disappointed with me because he knew that I was capable of more. During that car ride he challenged me to take pride in and excel at what I do. From then on I told myself that I would find a way to work harder each semester. I started with a low GPA and increased it every semester until I finished with a much more respectable one. Finishing strong gave me a huge sense of accomplishment, but the best feeling was when my parents told me that they were proud of me. I never could have done it without their support and
Choosing a career is one of the most important decisions a person has to make in their life. It is so important because that is what we will have to do to support ourselves throughout life. Imagine being stuck in a dead end job and having to go to work every morning and dreading it. That is no spending oneÕs time and life is too short to work 35 years and be unhappy with it. If a person likes the job they do then it is not work, because finding satisfaction out of a job can bring great happiness. That information has enabled me to make the decision of choosing my area of study and career in the field of Information Technology.
