The day I entered my father’s grand opening to his new business, I was overwhelmed with the diverse crowd that surrounded the party. Thus I pledge to continue to learn and expand my skills and knowledge throughout my career. Graduating from CADH has provided me with great academic knowledge and clinical skills necessary to apply the concepts of health promotion and disease prevention. The experience that I have acquired at CADH will allow me to provide client specific, empathetic, empathetic and suitable treatment to all of my future clients.
This report explores similarities and contrasts between two career options within the medical field, family physician and dentistry. This study will give the researcher, potentially a prospect student in either of these fields, a chance to investigate and understand the benefits of these two careers in United States focusing on several criteria outlined in the paragraphs below.
I was born in a small town of -----------of underdeveloped country of Bangladesh. I grew up speaking Bengali, wore traditional clothes, created intricate henna designs on women’s hands, and performed classical Bengali music. In order accomplish anything in life, there needs to be a plan or path to get there. This especially applies to my career path in the dental field. Enrolling at Roosevelt University allowed me to be one step closer to that path, in which I will be earning my Bachelor of Science degree with a concentration in Biology. After I finish my bachelors, I plan to take the DAT prior to seeking admission to a four year professional Dental school program and from there obtain a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree. All the various factors that lead me to dentistry amounted to just a part of my decision to become a dentist, the other half of my decision came from the simple question, “(w)ill this be a satisfying career for me?” A satisfying career, to me, is defined by whether or not I can use my career as a means to assist others and experience a sense of accomplishment and self-gratification in helping others. The notion of a satisfying career was one that came through personal experiences. Being a former Medicaid recipient, I was thankful to those that worked in the public health sector to help those in need, including myself and my family. Through my past experiences, I felt obligated to reciprocate the resources and assistance that I had received. At the end of my career, I hope to reflect back on my career and experience a sense of accomplishment and fulfillment for having helped others throughout my career; this is what will amount to successful career, from my point of view.
The four years of high school have prepared me on an academic level as I challenge myself to various Honors and AP courses. I have taken AP classes such as US History, Calculus AB, Language and Composition, Studio Arts, Statistics, Biology, Chinese, and Literature and Composition. I realized much of my comfort zone revolves around English and Science based courses, which suits my pursuit for Dentistry. Many of the school organizations and club activities, such as presidential positions in FBLA and State Treasurer or NJASA, have contributed to the development of my personality: outspoken and social. I am also currently a Class Officer, FBLA Vice President, Student Council President, and National Honor Society Public Relations. Holding distinctive positions allows me to understand my peers and myself from various perspectives.
Working as an esthetician gave me the confidence that I wanted to work with my hands. “What made you want to become a dentist?”- I have been asked this question numerous times over the last five years since I embarked on my career path in the field of dentistry. I marvel in the bewilderment people have in trying to understand why on earth anyone would want to work in people’s mouths all day. Truthfully, it was my own pediatric dentist who inspired me to want to become a dentist and whom I aspired to be like. I remember being greeted by the friendly faces in the waiting room, playing with the toys until I was invited to sit in the bright green dental chair for my checkup. It was there that I learned the importance of oral health care and where my fervor for oral health care was born.
Because of the difference in the way teachers taught student, I had difficulty in catching up with students but as the time passed, I was able to assimilate myself into this new culture and was able to get the highest in Chemistry and Physics Advanced Placement classes. Even in the college, I tried my best to become one of the top students and as a result, I was able to get All Florida Academic Team award. This award was awarded to only thirty students in the Florida out of which two students were from the Valencia College. It was August 2001, the first time I stepped foot into a school in the United States. The year before I was in my native country of South Korea, which has a much different culture than that of the United States. In retrospect, it was during this time of transition that provided a foray into my discovery of dentistry.
