1) For my family heritage the easiest starting points are with conversions to the Christian faith. My mother’s side of the family is previously primarily islamic and depending on whether it is her mother’s line or father’s, either of Moghul or Afghan descent, like gypsies who literally walked down from the mountains, similar in ethnicity if not actually “cousins” of the Pashtun, now partially infamous for being a primary ethnic unit of the Taliban. The first convert to the Christian faith is Gulam Gauns Khan Chaudhary in 1864, he was the father of my maternal grandfather Rehmat Khan Chaudhary. We know a little about up to two generations prior to Gulam Gauns conversion, and much about our family since. We are told that he was forced to live outside of the home for a period of months after his conversion, eventually his mom told his dad that he may be a Christian now, but he is still their son. He was invited back into the home, and eventually both mom, dad, and the siblings converted, or so the story goes. We also know that his grandfather, Salem Khan is said to be a Moghul prince who was awarded the land he could encircle in a single day on horseback by the incoming authorities.
