English Midterm My analysis over the development of my writing throughout this semester. I will assess many aspects of my experiences with English 1301 up to this point in the semester. I will explain the ways by which I have blossomed as a writer during this time. I will provide brief examples of my work to show what I am basing the evaluation of my writing on. What my conceptions of writing were, at the start of, the semester and compare it to what they are now. I will clarify how my work this semester reflects the concepts of writing and reading we have been working on and studying in class. I will tell about what and how particular reading assignments have been influential in my growth of creative ideas. Lastly, my interpretation of what it means to be a writer, and how my experiences this semester has influenced my opinion on writing. My development as a writer has flourished throughout this semester. The first week of this fall semester started out with writing responses from our readings in the textbook. Looking back through and analyzing my reading responses at the semester to now; I noticed a substantial improvement in not only my grammar skills, but also my summarizing, and in-depth studying of writing adeptness. Another way I have progressed this semester is the vocabulary of my writing has significantly improved and become more scholarly. Another advancement I noticed was that the content of my work has matured, along with my organizational adeptness. My assessment of my development in writing is based on comparison of essays I have written this semester and my reading responses from the textbook. From this course I have learned that being a writer is much more than writing grammatically correct. A writer is one who studies deeply and takes into mind the audience and the context and then begins to form their paper. Writers are rhetor’s, encoders, and members of discourse communities. As a writer, I hold the power to influence anyone that reads my writing, whether I intend to influence that person or not. Being a writer from my understanding this semester should actually be called a rhetor or encoder, because just about every piece of writing contains rhetoric and intertextuality of some sort, whether you consciously recognize it or not. I find that the knowledge, skills, and new ideas I have acquired this semester will significantly influence not only my college career but also benefit my life in general.
This assignment is a testament of growth and contributed to my outlook on strategies towards improving my writing through the importance of understanding how crucial, each component of the writing process is and how in depth you should take each process. The following final drafts, drafts, notes, and peer review letters represent my growth as a writer in the span of one semester. I learned quite a bit about myself and the things i can do to improve my writing and the methods of doing proper research in order to write a proper research essay. Though i have seen an improvement within these essays, i feel i still have much to practice upon.
When demonstrating my growth as a writer across several pieces, there are four main learning outcomes in which I have focused on. These include writing, reading, researching and reflecting. Within these learning outcomes, there are many different conventions and ways to understand my various projects and assignments as a writer. Throughout the English 1020 class, I have been able to observe not only my previous strengths, but myself growing as a writer by improving my ability to find strong sources as well as properly citing and explaining them, forming a more logical paragraph structure, and many more conventions when writing an assignment.
English has never been my best subject. Reading books can be exciting, but the writing aspect of English can be dreadful. Somehow, however, I passed all my advanced English classes with at least a B, and my teachers always considered me to be “above average.” My impartiality toward English shifted to an indifference near the end of my high school career; my indifference then shifted to appreciation. This appreciation is attributed to American Studies and Honors Writing, the most difficult English classes at Belleville East Township High School. American Studies and Honors Writing have strengthened my writing skills beyond what I believed possible. I still do not believe that I am the best writer, and English may never be my best or favorite
Through the courses I feel I developed when it came to composing. Whether it be figuring out how to discover scholastic diaries or making an annotated bibliography. In spite, the fact that I have made upgrades despite everything I make them develop to do. The fate of what sorts of composing I should do contingent upon the class or major is still vague, yet utilizing the information obtained from this class will give me aide in future papers and class assignments dealing with writing. Despite the fact that, I have learned assortment of things my aptitudes when it seeks composing still needs change. Skills, such as appropriate sentence structure and APA format or citation, still need some improvement. Despite the fact that I have things to enhance this semester, I was still ready to enhance a few ranges of my written work
My strengths as a writer have grown even stronger throughout the semester. Coming in, I was great at grammar and punctuation. I knew most of the rules and how to use them
When I heard I was going to be taking English 1301 I was a bitter seventeen year old that hated writing. I hated writing because throughout the years I had been forced to remove the creativity from my writing, I had been forced to remove my own voice, and I had been forced to conform to a certain method of writing all to meet standardized testing requirements. Before I was required to take standardized tests, I wrote all the time for no reason at all; writing was fun, writing was easy, and writing was a way to express myself. I had no idea this class would help me find enjoyment in writing again.

This year in English I have exponentially improved my writing skills. Through critical self-analysis I have found my Achilles heel for writing, grammar and mechanical errors. I have become an editing heavy writer due to this very fact. This knowledge has led me to improve my skills minimizing my mistakes. Editing has allowed me to cope with my flaws. This semester in English 102 I have refined my writing by adding a step to my writing process, editing my rough drafts.
During this school year I have learned a lot. My writing has evolved in the following ways. It was changed in the way that I don’t write as scatterbrained as I use to. My process as changed in the way that I think gives a better final project. And I found something that I think is interesting about my writing. So without further delay let's take a look.
Throughout this semester of EN 109, I have progressed as a writer and have learned to become aware of my writing process. In this time, writing four papers, giving two presentations, and completing a variety of other assignments have helped me grow as a writer. They have also helped me accept peer revisions and apply them to my advantage. In addition to personal improvements I have met the core standards for this course, and that is shown throughout my work.
As my English 101 class comes to an end, I have realized how much I have transformed as a writer. In this essay, I am going to explain what I realized my strengths and weaknesses are as a writer and how they have manifested themselves throughout the quarter. I was skeptical at first coming into this class knowing that English takes formidable work and dedication, but I am very proud of the progress I have made. We completed a great deal of work throughout the quarter; from grammar exercises, summary reviews, and two challenging essays. Throughout the quarter I found myself improving in each category. As a writer, my skills and confidence have developed into more clarity and thought, something I have always wanted to be, as a result of a well constructed class that led to a superb educational experience.
Over the past few weeks, I have learned more about grammar, punctuation, mechanics’, and Transitional words. In addition to these lessons, I have learned about active reading strategies and taking better notes. These have all allowed me to review my writing assignments with a different set of tools to improve my writing skills. This week I have select three documents that I believe demonstrates my growth as a writer.
During the course of the semester, all of the writing and research skills I developed helps to strengthen my self-confidence in many areas and it aids me in achieving my goals for the future. By developing more effective research approaches for finding and citing sources, I advanced from an inexperienced writer to a confident writer with the suitable knowledge to create effective essays to capture my audience. Having confidence in my abilities to use the skills I learned will help me to become a success in college. With more practice and valuation of my strengths and weaknesses, I can continue to improve and become an excellent communicator in the future.
Looking through my past submissions and pieces of work throughout this past semester, I have made many realizations in regards to my progress as an English student. Through re-reading my writing, and reviewing the feedback I have received on my writing, I can recognize my growth as an English student. In addition to realizing my growth, I am also able to see a lot of areas that still need work. This past semester I have faced many challenges, I have pushed myself to go outside of my comfort zone, and I have excelled in several areas. After analyzing my past works from this semester, I have identified many re-occurring strengths and weaknesses from each unit, as well as challenges and goal assessments for myself in the future.
