During orientation for my freshman year at BRMHS, I signed up for piano classes. When I was given my schedule, Piano I was not listed. Instead, I had been enrolled in a media arts course due to the piano classes filling up too quickly. I thought I would hate the class because of my lack of interest in film, television, and broadcast journalism. After my first few weeks in the class, I was hooked. Now, I have been taking media arts courses for over three years. Because of my experience in film and television production, my love for art and creativity, and the joy obtained from entertaining other people, I want to be a film director. While majoring in theater at LSU with a film and television concentration, I will gain valuable skills necessary to create major shows and films, and I will learn to write interesting material in order to entertain others. My experience in film and television production has greatly contributed to my decision to become a film director. Most directors have several years of experience in a field related to motion picture, TV, or theater …show more content…
According to Shawn Frey (Frey), filmmaker with two and a half years of experience, “Skill is something you will acquire as you go along. It takes work and time. It doesn’t always just come naturally to you. You may have to work at it or you may have to have assistance, but whatever you do, don’t give up or say that you can’t do it. You can.” I won’t be able to create a major film on my first or second try, but I know I can. Through shadowing Shawn Frey, I learned that the knowledge that I will gain from more experience in filmmaking and hard work will help me reach my ultimate goal of becoming a major filmmaker. I have been creating minor projects for four years and it is now time to move in to slightly larger projects. The challenge introduced when moving up to more difficult projects will prepare me for the next level of
The Entertainment Industry is an expanding industry with numerous career opportunities especially for the quick learning students in today’s world. I chose to study the entertainment industry because I have always had a passion for it. I grew up with music always playing on the radio and if the radio was off, the television was tuned into some show. I know many people listen to music and watch television all the time, but there is so much more to this industry. Being so passionate has led me to studying specific things in the industry and learning the ins and outs of it, which is helping me to find a potential career. There are many people in the industry that I look up to and one person, who has made it in particular, is Debra Rathwell.
Liz Meyrovich, 19, moved 3,000 miles away from the Portland, Oregon home she grew up in to attend Emerson College, one of Boston’s many prestigious performing arts schools. Unlike many other aspiring actors and actresses who move to Los Angeles straight out of high school and work in minimum wage service industry jobs while going on numerous auditions, Meyrovich decided that she would get a degree. She was a musical theatre major, hoping that a degree from Emerson would fuel her career as an actress. But one year and $32,000 later, she came to the realization that it wasn’t going to happen.

RH: What inspired you to pursue a career in the entertainment industry and especially as a screenwriter? What kind of training have you had to prepare for these jobs?
I would like to begin this reflection paper with my past experiences. First, I am an older student – obtaining my first bachelors from Hofstra University. As a sophomore in broadcast journalism, I was assigned the task of interviewing a graduate student in speech-language pathology as part of a career exploration video for incoming freshman. Filming her and her fellow classmates as they helped children overcome their stutter and gain both confidence and a voice, I was fascinated by the amazing work they were doing. But I had already begun searching for a career path in public relations, soon taking a job at a public relations firm on Long Island focusing on business clients. Within three months, I started dreaming about a career more than a

...s at the school. I believe that my experience with new media production as well as my work in traditional theater speak to my ability to create ambitious, interesting work. I believe the School of Theater, Film and Television will provide an environment that will challenge and encourage me to grow artistically, while providing strong critical feedback and exposure to new ideas, to say nothing of the cultural opportunities that the Los Angeles community offers. I greatly enjoy collaboration and analytical exploration, which I hope will make me an asset to your program and my fellow MFA students in directing and other disciplines. I am confident that my drive and focus will make me an excellent director, but I think that the MFA program at UCLA offers an opportunity to grow beyond my own ideas and to become a superior artist to that which I can become on my own.
With this short but very interesting and informative class I have just scratched the surface of the what it takes to make a full fleged film. It takes much more than I had presumed to make a movie in Hollywood. The number of people that it takes to make a minute of a movie let alone the entire movie was astonishing to me. There are many things that it takes to start making a movie but without an idea of some sort there is no movie to be made.
When being produced, a film goes through many stages. What starts as a vague idea for a story, turns into a cohesive experience for viewers to enjoy. The 16 values of creative intelligence relate to this process in many ways.
“My life is story telling. I believe in stories in their incredible power to keep people alive, to keep the living alive and the dead.”
I decided to be a director when I was fourteen years old. I was in my tenth grade and studied about world wars in history. I was inspired by the stories of the wars and started writing stories based on the same subject. I had little clue what to do with those stories until I watched ‘Saving Private Ryan’ .This movie based on second world war inspired me to be a filmmaker.
Video editing has gone a long way in technology. It has come from just putting pieces of a film together into adding sound effects, adding filters and adding captions or pictures into the film. I would love to be in as a video editor as it advances in time. I want to see it evolve and become something better than it is now. I can’t wait for my turn in film editing history.
...background in media education is beneficial. However, previous experience within the industry is a requirement, whether it be as a runner, researcher, assistant producer etc; this experience can lead to employment in a more senior position. A strong producer will be creative, a strong financial head, leadership abilities, confidence, good communication skills and strong time and resource management.
While researching film directing, a lot of interesting information about directors who became famous or wealthy off of their short films, movies and commercials. These directors formally based their films off of ideas they would think people would like to watch over and over again. The most famous directors come from people with imagination that can picture what is happening in the movie before it happens. Famous directors can imagine what actors or actresses would play that part in the movie which leads back to their imagination. A quote from Quentin Tarantino “If a million people see my movie, I hope they see a million different movies”. The purpose of filmmaking is to be different and make your movie stand out over everyone else, because
