For a long time, I was scared to travel, I was scared of new cultures and new environments and I had an irrational fear of flying. That fear was causing me to limit myself and the world that I could see. In 2011, I was given the opportunity to conquer those fears; I traveled to Europe for two and a half weeks on a mosaic tour through various countries. That trip was a life changing moment for me. I decided that I never wanted to be limited by fear again, it also showed me that I have a love for travel and exploring new and different cultures. However, I did not like the business field because of the rigidness and lack of creativity, after a lot of trial and error, picking up and dropping different majors and minors I found the perfect fit, Public Relations. Public Relations is the perfect mix of communication and business that I was looking for. I get to take classes that let me discover and grow as a person. I found that Public Relations gave me limitless opportunities with my professional career if I wanted to go corporate I could work for a company or I if I wanted creative I could work for an agency. The opportunity to go to Brazil would impact my academic life in such an amazing way it would allow me to study abroad and learn about the differences between people. I would appreciate the opportunity to learn about a culture that is vastly different from what I am used to. I am a PR major with a marketing minor. In most of my classes, I have learned that in order to be effective at your craft you need to know your audience: their culture, their customs, their demographics, and their way of life. I learned in Intro to communication that not knowing about your target audience can ruin a business transaction because by not knowing the culture you can come across as rude and offensive.
