Introduction I attended Brazil Fest and it was quite an experience. Brazil Fest is a large show wit various performances that honor and celebrate the tradition of Carnival in Brazil. Carnival is a large event that occurs in Brazil, it is often thought of as a large parade and public street party. People often dress up and let loose in the streets of Brazil. Carnival also happens in other places around the world and Brazil Fest in Gainesville showed that as well (Foote 2003). There were many different performances that were interesting and new to me. For example, I saw belly dancing, fire dancers, and aerial acrobatics. Overall the environment was extremely friendly and quite festive. Environment There were probably seventy-five people in attendance throughout Brazil fest (when I was in attendance). The majority of the crowd was students who were attending for extra credit. However, there were older (around the age of 23-28) people in attendance as well. Most of the crowd was Caucasians; however, there were a handful of people who were of a different ethnicity though. The crowd was very friendly as I went up to some of the older people to ask why they were there and if they were enjoying themselves. The general consensus was that they were having a great time and they thought the various performances were entertaining. Of all the people attending, the majority had come with friends or other classmates, there were some students that came by themselves but they ended up making friends with other classmates. This was made evident by more than eighty percent of the people standing in groups. More than half the people attending were females. I was not able to detect class while I was in attendance, if I were to take a guess... ... middle of paper ... ...e. I also asked more people questions between performances but those were short replies. Conclusion Brazil Fest was a success. It provided students and others as a source of entertainment and helped contribute to illustrating social customs of another country. I personally found attending to be a dumb idea at first but was glad that I attended. I also feel that going by myself made it easier for me to interact with others and get their views otherwise I more than likely would have stayed with my own social circle and would have missed out on meeting new people and seeing and learning what they are thinking. I hope that one day I am able to attend the real carnival in Brazil and get the full experience of the culture and customs of the country. Works Cited Foote, Russell. Brazil is not only one of the fastest growing economic markets in the world but it also has a very rich history of sport. Soccer has dominated the country as the most popular sport by a long shot. So much so that many businesses shut down operations hours before national matches in order for their employees to prepare for their team’s game(Brazil.org). Other sports that are popular in Brazil are martial arts, footvolley (a combination of soccer and volleyball), tennis, basketball, motorsport, volleyball, and rugby. Brazilians are hungry for sports. In the summer of 2014, the FIFA World Cup will be held in Brazil, the second time ever hosting the tournament.
My family and I recently visited the State Fair of Texas. It is the biggest

These events allow people get to know about them through mass media and social media. The voodoo and carnival festival attracted thousands of tourists and visitors every day and every year that allow the Haitian government to make money during these events.
Brazil is far from being a paradise on Earth. There is still a lot to be done. But from the eyes of an expat, I can see clearer the results of continuous transformations in Brazil than my fellow compatriots who are living and experiencing every small change over time. I have seen more changes in education and health happening lately than during my entire lifetime. I grew up hearing from several sources that Brazil would some day be the "country of the future." I thought that I would not live to see this day. Today, I can say that we are closer to the promised "future" than we ever were. Brazil is not the same as it was ten years ago. This country can finally be proud to honor the words written on its flag - "Order and Progress."
The mass of almost one hundred thousand is edgy. The night is hot, humid, and alive with a feeling in the air so palpable you can almost trace it with your finger. The bleachers are filled to maximum capacity, along a mile-long stretch of paved roadway adjacent to an old brewery. People from all races, classes, and countries are celebrating together at the culmination of the orgiastic, pre-Lenten, hedonistic festival of Carnival. Soon, the first marchers proceed down the corridor to the booming cacophony of bass, snare, and friction drums. The rattling of tambourines, bells, and scrapers add flavor and accent. Like a bird set free, the singing cavaquinho (ukulele) emits its high pitched cries, adding to the frenzy. The marchers and dancers, with their quick, physical movements, undulating hips and heel steps, embody the living sound. It is time for the annual celebration once again in Brazil, time for Carnival, a time once again for the ultimate physical expression of joy: Samba.
Collectively, Brazil has one of the most ethnocentric obtained cultures in South America. It is the fifth largest country within the world. Brazil diverse society is enacted with rich South American, Indian, African and European cultures. In conclusion, the FIFA World Cup should not take place in Brazil as it contributes to the nation’s security, education, and economic problems. The nation recently hosted the Confederate Cup, is preparing for the 2014 World Cup, and has already made plans to host the 2016 Summer Olympics; three events that will cost more money than the citizens of the nation can afford to lose. Instead of planning elaborate parties and building stadiums for sports events, Brazil should focus on problems the people of the country are truly passionate about. No one knows what is best for Brazil the way the citizens of the nation do, and all it takes is one look at the protestors’ signs to know that the World Cup is not what this country needs.
No other country can compare to the great nation of Brazil when it comes to the beautiful game of soccer. Since their entrance as full member of FIFA, or Fédération Internationale de Football Association, in 1923, the country of Brazil has accounted for numerous trophies as well as individual awards for its players (“Brazil”). Brazilian futebol, or soccer, has reached international stardom because of its history consisting of ground breaking teams, revolutionary players, and winning performances in competitive tournaments.
The cultural event that I attended was the Paseo First Friday Art Walk. I chose this event opposed to others because of the unique environment. This was located in downtown Oklahoma City as a strip mall known as The Paseo Arts District. There were art galleries, art demonstrations, live music, pottery, and food. This was all very fascinating to me and I enjoyed my time there.
Without warning, the lights went dark. This was the moment I had been waiting for. My adrenaline went through the roof. The time had finally come that I would get to see and hear my first live concert.
