Endless Outreach is a non-profit organization that service at-risk youth in both pierce and king county Washington. It provides mentorship to youth, gang intervention, as well as addresses any issue in the home they may be a barrier to the youth success. This organization serves people of all diffe0rent races, ethic, social, and financial backgrounds ensuring all community members families are afforded equal opportunities in life. Endless Outreach will network with local schools that have a high number of at-risk students. Provide services such as academic coaching and alternative to suspension programs. The non-profit will also provide training school staff on how to deal with at-risk youth, uninspired students, and how to lower gang activity in the schools. With a firm belief that it takes a village to raise a child, our organization will incorporate the family of the students and as well as school staff to create a plan for success so that the student understand the amount of support he or she has. Endless Outreach understands that much of a child’s problems begin at home. Therefore we will assist parents with employment training, free credit repair and budgeting, and help them receive family counseling from other local agencies in the community. Desired Future State This organization needs to change its way of thinking and think on a larger scale. The values of the organization are strong dedication to servicing youth and families in need. All staff of Endless Outreach are trained and well qualified in areas in which they serve. Most importantly one hundred percent of the staff is dedicated in carrying out the mission and purpose of Endless and are driven by passion not a paycheck. Therefore stability is something all organizations should value. Having a clear vision is worthless unless it is put into practice. Acknowledging the areas I lack is part of the growth that I claim to value. With that being said I will partake in more events that will cause me to speak more. I have a phobia of public speaking. I understand that this can and will prevent me from achieving personal mastery if not remedied. Engaging with people is not my strongest characteristic however I understand that if I want to help as many people as I can, it cannot be done by being afraid to engage in conversation with people whom I do not know. Exercising has always been how I relax and release stress. I have decided that I will incorporate more outdoor exercises in my workout plans.
In doing so it showed how powerless and mentally damage these children were. It is not by far an excuse for their actions. But is does show how these children were seeking for the love and acceptance of someone, anyone. This led them down path of destruction. This program is a huge success and has 74 percent rate of recidivism (Hubner, 2005, xxi). This is due to the fact that they are treated like human being and children. Their lives at the school revolves around the concept of resocialization, from lodging, to their therapy sessions, to their schools, to their vocational programs, to recreation program which is football (Hubner, 2005, xxi). I was originally going to complete my service learning project at Kitchen for the Poor, located at 650 Vance St in Toledo, Ohio. But in view of my capacity to volunteer because of my work hours, I had to pick an alternate administration to partake in. Instead, I had the opportunity to volunteer at Momee’s Daycare. Momee’s Daycare is owned and operated by Renee Bowen, and her location is at 756 Wenz Rd. in Toledo, Ohio. Her company has five employees, situated in the proprietor’s home.
“When schools, parents, families, and communities work together to support learning, students tend to earn higher grades, attend school more regularly, stay in school longer, and enroll in higher level programs.” (Van Roeckel, 2008, p. 1) Deer Valley High School in Glendale, AZ is the first high school built in the Deer Valley Unified Scholl District, and with a population around 1800 students, the high school is one of the bigger schools in the state. It has a tradition of family on its’ campus, where there are still teachers teaching that were there when the school opened in 1980. A number of former students have become new teachers on campus and just about all the teachers’ children have attended and graduated from the campus. With a school like ours, there are many connections to the community around it and it is demonstrated by the programs that bring in parent and community to help with the development of our students. There are numerous booster clubs run on our campus to help support student achievement on the sports fields, a school to work programs to teach the students necessary skills in different areas of either nursing, sports medicine classes, and in the culinary arts classrooms, and funding to our school to help ensure all students graduate on time. There are many programs on our campus, but I will discuss four of the programs: baseball booster club, C2G program, “school-to-work”, and the special education program sponsored by Arrowhead Hospital. These programs are designed to improve the relationships between the campus and the people in the community, and give all students on campus every opportunity to succeed in their future.
Students that have been labeled “delinquent” need help in beating the odds to become successful adults. As C. Ogletree discusses article, Total Reform for a Broken System, a program needs to be created that includes family involvement and support to create concrete goals and means for students to achieve them, in the aim of becoming successful students throughout each school until graduation. It is a great goal for school institutions to strive in changing students’ behavior for the better, giving them a fair opportunity in education. Not to single out those of low-income homes, race, or learning disabilities. It should be the goal to get to the heart of misbehavior that is introducing so many students into the juvenile justice system. School institutions need to be place of supportive and structured learning from day one. Students enter school as young children, for the first time away from parents, relying on educators to guide them throughout their day. School Institutions should look for a positive approach that emphasizes on individual strengths to promote learning. The restorative circles program is having been introduced into school systems as an alternative to the zero tolerance policies. It creates an involvement of communication between all parties in any issue. Whether it be good or bad, it offers support for students to discuss issues and ideas, opening a line of communication between parents, teachers, and students, which will be key a student’s
One of my greatest strengths pertaining to education is my ability to complete my work in a timely matter. I only turned in late work at least two times in my high school career. Another strength I possess is being a respectful, erudite student. I can understand the lessons quickly and listen to my teacher in a considerate manner. Although one can discuss their strengths indefinitely, weaknesses must be told to understand a person. One of my main shortcomings is public speaking. I find it hard to present myself in front of a large group of people. Once I begin to know my peers, it is easier for me to speak in front of them during
Reach Out WorldWide (“ROWW”) was started by a group of 6 men in California. They who flew to Haiti and volunteered to help in whatever way they could after a massive earthquake devastated the country on January 12, 2010. While working in Haiti as medical aid volunteers the group recognized the need for skilled people, supplies and urgency for a faster response when natural disasters strike. After returning to the United States from Haiti the 6 men, Lucas Wimer, Paul Walker, Jesse Brisendine, Dave Marquez, Christian Urzua and John Cloughton formed ROWW. The foundation of the organization was built upon the experiences they had while in Haiti. ROWW was born from a simple idea which recognized the need for an immediate response to people in need and; that by working together they could make a difference. "You have not lived today until you have done something for someone who can never repay you.” is a quote by John Bunyan that the founders of ROWW each believe.
Another core value related concept stems from the frustration that is higher when contracting with partners who were not familiar with HBI’s guiding philosophies. This is caused from not choosing partnerships who are familiar with the strict government levels of accountability and the philosophies that guide HBI in their decision making process. I recommend they reconsider the partnership that have been established with the organizations that do not have their same values. This will be difficult at first because you may lose many of the connections that you worked so hard to make, but it is important to work with people who share our ideals. Also, they may see a loss in numbers of youth served because they have fewer organizations to account
The Harlem Children’s Zone provides a variety programs and options for children that come from families with low income. The HCZ continues to be an organization that is designed to take effect over, achievement-oriented schools and strong social and community services to care for children’s educational achievement that live in poverty. Their overall goal is assisting kids to have the determination and motivation to graduate from college. This goal provides the kids the ability to enter the middle class and become well-rounded, self-sustaining, civic-minded citizens. "Catching Them Early" profiles the extraordinary efforts of Richmond's Lincoln Elementary School to ensure a bright future for its children. Ninety-nine percent of the kids attending Lincoln qualify for federal meal subsidies; many have family members in a gang. So the school makes special efforts, including the hiring of outreach workers, to provide the kind of support kids need to stay in class and do well.
The mission of StandUp for Kids is “to empower teenagers toward lifelong personal growth through on the streets outreach programs.” This mission statement is clear and concise. It guides the actions of StandUp for Kids, spells out their overall goal and provides a path. StandUp for Kids strives to gain the trust of homeless youth in order to achieve its mission statement (StandUp For, 2014). This trust is sought out through programs such as street outreach where volunteers search for homeless youth who are in need of help. The homeless youth are then introduced to outreach centers where they are provided with food, basic supplies, counseling, educational assistance, independent living skills training and referral services for available programs throughout the community (StandUp For, 2014).
The compliance of both the core set value service and competence is reflected in the XYZ agency. The XYZ agency networks with local companies such as a local pharmaceutical company, DONOR1 for support for the agency. DONOR1 adopted twenty families, donating boots for all the children, and donated gifts for children and their families on holidays. Providing a service to help those who are unable to have their basic needs met by creating community awareness. In the field of social work you must network in order to gain access to resources, to build relationships, and to figure out how to implement services. Reaching out to the community shows the competence of networking to help make an immense impact than solely utilizing agency resources. In addition to compliance demonstrated at the XYZ agency, the requirement of orientation and training to new staff, volunteers, and interns help everyone to be competent in the service being provided to children and their families. The agency allows the interns to create flyers to provide leadership in promoting sustainable changes in service delivery and practice to improve the quality of social services. The flyers provide a service of awareness so everyone can have the same access to resources. I have watch the city of Fond du Lac, in the state of Wisconsin, transform in the past 10 years or so. This was not a good transformation and it made me concerned for kids in my neighborhood in community. I was not really aware the programs that we’re offered to the community, nor did I seek these programs for help when I needed it most. Every now and again, I will drive past the Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) chapter that is just over the railroad tracks before you get on the highway. I realized that this nonprofit organization was in place to help but I didn’t know how it could help me. During my research I was able to answer questions that I have asked myself a decade ago and learned more about a program that could have helped me survive
The objective of this position paper is to establish, those days are gone when business can claim they are stable. Nobody is stable and cannot be in this dynamic turbulent socio-economic situation. Organizations have to accept this fact and try to find a solution to tackle the problem.
I like communicating with other people, and much of my life consists of me with my friends. Communicating with people is a good way to become social and comfortable around people. Public speaking is my least favorite part of communicating but I feel if I go into business, it will be one of the most important things to learn. If I have to give a big speech, it could be the first time several upper management bosses really hear what I have to say, and if I give a poor speech and look frightened, it could make them think I am incompetent and cannot communicate.
This study is related to a case conducted at Faith Community Hospital to assess the problems due to issues with their mission statement and how it is being interpreted. According to the CEO of Faith Community Hospital, very few of the members and partners seem to be following the mission statement. There are issues with organizational processes, ethics issues, and communication systems. Many staff members are operating as individuals and not as a collective unit based on their values. A moment's distraction can result in a tragic outcome.
