During that time I was able to find areas that I would consider my strengths. One area I would say I have a great strength would be classroom management. My classroom was very talkative compared to other classes I have taught. Managing them was very difficult at first because I didn’t know what to expect or even how to hand the students. It was also difficult because I wasn’t sure who was supposed to be disciplining and taking control. Once the cooperating teacher and I had this figured out, it was easy for me to take charge and lay down what I expected. I noticed at this time, the students respected me more as a teacher and not just another student.
I believe that another one of my strengths is that I am able to create an excellent student-teacher relationship. There were a few students who right away started opening up to me about their lives, while there were others who were shy at first, but in the end, they were always trying to talk to me or tell me the latest news from the night before. I want to keep this type of relationship with the students throughout student teaching and into my career. I believe that building this type of relationship will create a better atmosphere in the classroom!

...hen getting to my usual spot, more than likely near technology and just staying there. I don’t want to be that teacher. I want to be moving around and observing at all times. For student teaching, I really want to work on this. I want to be moving around the classroom as much as I can, I want to be able to notice if students in the back aren’t paying attention. My goal is to get away from the technology as much as possible, maybe if a page needs to be turned or something that is simple, a student could help, that way it’s not me always in that spot.
As a teacher, you never actually exceed and perfect a certain area. A teacher is always growing in areas, learning, and also improving. I don’t believe that I have perfected any portion in teaching because I am a new teacher. I am eager to begin student teaching to work on my strengths, weakness, and goals even more.
