Throughout my teaching, in practicum, I noticed many areas that I am strong, but also areas where I really need to improve on. I’m very grateful for the opportunity to have had the time in practicum, not only did it help me get a new view on teaching, but it helped me reflect upon myself in every situation of the day.
During that time I was able to find areas that I would consider my strengths. One area I would say I have a great strength would be classroom management. My classroom was very talkative compared to other classes I have taught. Managing them was very difficult at first because I didn’t know what to expect or even how to hand the students. It was also difficult because I wasn’t sure who was supposed to be disciplining and taking control. Once the cooperating teacher and I had this figured out, it was easy for me to take charge and lay down what I expected. I noticed at this time, the students respected me more as a teacher and not just another student.
I believe that another one of my strengths is that I am able to create an excellent student-teacher relationship. There were a few students who right away started opening up to me about their lives, while there were others who were shy at first, but in the end, they were always trying to talk to me or tell me the latest news from the night before. I want to keep this type of relationship with the students throughout student teaching and into my career. I believe that building this type of relationship will create a better atmosphere in the classroom!
Since I taught in Uganda, I had limited resources to create lesson plans. I noticed that it didn’t just help over there, but I was also able to create unique and engaging lesson plans during practicum that wouldn’t r...

...hen getting to my usual spot, more than likely near technology and just staying there. I don’t want to be that teacher. I want to be moving around and observing at all times. For student teaching, I really want to work on this. I want to be moving around the classroom as much as I can, I want to be able to notice if students in the back aren’t paying attention. My goal is to get away from the technology as much as possible, maybe if a page needs to be turned or something that is simple, a student could help, that way it’s not me always in that spot.
As a teacher, you never actually exceed and perfect a certain area. A teacher is always growing in areas, learning, and also improving. I don’t believe that I have perfected any portion in teaching because I am a new teacher. I am eager to begin student teaching to work on my strengths, weakness, and goals even more.

A Reflection On Teaching And Learning Experience At Classroom Essay

- I made it clear to my students that they had a voice and should not feel intimidated, even by their peers. I focused on building their self-esteem and confidence early enough because self-confidence was linked to everything else either in the classroom or out in the community. Notably, my students are aware that they could correct me or voice their ideas if they thought I was wrong in a teaching concept. It was surprising, but I learned a lot from that exercise, at times when I would lose insight into a concept....   [tags: Learning, Education, Holism, Better]

Experience With and Benefits of Nontraditional Students in the Classroom

- There are only a few times in my undergraduate experience that I remember being in class with much older students. At that time, most of the older students were auditing classes because they could do so tuition free. They, therefore, would be in the class sessions except on exam days and they were not expected to turn in any of the assignments. This fact somewhat bothered me at the time because it made them seem as if they were receiving preferential treatment, although such was not the case. The most salient memory I have of a non-traditional student was a class called Comparative Government in which we studied the governmental structures of the United States, Great Britain, Russia, China,...   [tags: Educational Issues]

Our Inclusive Micro Teaching Experience For The Classroom Setting And The Opportunity

The micro-teaching technique prepared us for the classroom setting and the opportunity to link theory to practice (Brent and Thompson, 1996). As a group we trialled a variety of pedagogical strategies, before deciding on the most appropriate....   [tags: Music, Performing arts, Activity, Performance]
