The Criminal and the Colleague
The treatment of people should be held to the heavenly standard regardless of whether they are criminals or colleagues. We should look to the human personality aspects before making a decision and speaking to people. This essay is an attempt to show how the Christian belief that mankind is created in the image of God effects that way law enforcement interacts with people.
The Criminal
As a police officer you are exposed to the worst situations and people at their lowest points. One of the tasks I have as a State Trooper assign to the Forensic Services Unit, like the television show CSI, is the registration of Megan’s Law sex offenders. These sex offenders range from rapists to child predators. In the performance of my job I do not judge them on what they have done, although it would be easy to fall in to that trap. The fact that I am a Christian first and foremost allows me to look past that persons offenses (sin) and treat them with respect and professionalism. This is because every person is created in the image of God whether they are a convicted criminal or law abiding citizen. “If anyone says, "I love God," yet hates his brother, he is a liar. For anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen. And he has given us this command: Whoever loves God must also love his brother.” (1 John 4:20-12, New international Version) It is of paramount importance that as Christians we live our lives not only by a heavenly standard “The standard is that a believer should conduct his lie in this earthly world by the principles God has bestowed upon him in the heavenly world.” (Towns, 2007, p. 62) Therefore, we must treat others using the same standard th...

He is God's servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer.” (Rom 13:3-4, New International Version) It is not only our duty to the public who we serve; it is of a much higher responsibility to serve God in the war against evil.

Personality is patterns of thinking, behavior and emotional responses that make up individuality over time. Psychologist attempt to understand how personality develops and its impact on how we behave. Several theories attempt to explain personality, using different approaches. The social-cognitive and humanistic approaches are two of many theories that attempt to explain personality. This essay will identify the main concepts of social-cognitive and humanistic approach, identify perspective differences and discuss approach limitations.

If I purse a career in the law enforcement I would face a moral dilemma between my religion and my career. If I use excessive force and accidentally kill someone in the process, it would be difficult for me to accept that fact. As stated in the 10 Commandments, it is forbidden to kill (Personal communication, E. Amero & K. Demas, Oct. 19, 2016). Religious ethics may not be applied in my future career because of the moral dilemma I may face. As a result, I’ve decided to pursue a career that will allow me to apply my religious ethics as well.

The concept of personality has numerous definitions (Fatahi, Moradi, & Kashani-Vahid, 2016). Schultz and Schultz (2009), define personality in its broad sense as the manner of an individual’s behaviour in different situations. This essay explores the nature of personality, with the intention of highlighting its flexibility. The results of numerous empirical research studies are examined in order to investigate if, and how personality changes over time. It will be argued that an individual’s personality has the ability to change throughout their life.
