As a young child, I always had an interest in computers and how they work. As a kindergartener, my parents gave me their old computer; a large creamed colored monstrosity that was considered old even for its time. Despite this, I was amazed by the device and how it worked. This interest continued with me as I grew older and went through school. Throughout middle school, I learned more about computers and took every chance I could taking computer classes. In high school, I took part in my first computer science class and learn the basics of coding. Although this class was difficult I learned the basics of computer science and developed a love for computer science and coding. Throughout high school, I would take a computer science class every year and develop my coding skills. I hope that here I will be able to continue to work towards my degree and develop my skills as I work towards making a career out of computer science. The Computer Science Major involves creating programs in order to solve a problem or to complete a task. While it has many similarities to the other ITC majors, it is also different in many ways. Computer Science is unique in that it mainly focuses on making programs. It is a more conceptual study of programming. In other words, its focus is more about ideas and concepts than it is about business application. One more thing that makes this major unique is its heavy use of math and problem solving skills. These skills are very important to the major, because almost everything in Computer Science involves numbers. Another very important characteristic of Computer Science is the frequent use of variables and algorithms.
I was first introduced to the real world CS and programming languages in Grade 9. I learned Java for 4 years and watching my code execute correctly was always delightful. And that is when I decided that I wanted to pursue CS. At UCI, I learned Python in my first year and currently I am learning C++. Some assignments have really blown me away as I was able to connect the dots between different concepts and produce results. To get exposed to CS, I job shadowed a Web Developer and a Director of Operation. To gain new skills, I did a research project in areas of crowdsourcing where I learned Django and applied my knowledge in creating a website with other teammates using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. I worked on IoT and Augmented Reality as a summer intern. I am currently working on Augmented Reality as an intern, this quarter. I believe that learning and applying are different things and unless you are able to develop or progress by applying your knowledge you won’t know if you have indeed trodden the path of mastering it. I am grateful to have several opportunities to help me grow and advance in CS.
My interest in computers started around early high school when I got my laptop and started looking more and more into vividly at them. When I first got my laptop was playing videogames and watching streamers. Then I one day sitting in my bed and I thought to myself I would like to know more so I can fix anything if
Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, and Mark Zuckerberg. These three men all have one thing in common, they became very wealthy from investing in the future of computers. A person may decide to go to college and make a career out of working with computers because of the potential earnings and consistent need of individuals who have studied computer sciences. This paper is going to inform you on what an individual does with a Computer Science degree, education needed to work in this field, and why we need people to do this kind of work.
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio’s video announcement that city schools were starting a new program that will bring computer science education to all students is late. America is dragging where it should be exceling. Less than 10 percent of the city’s schools offer computer science education and only one percent receive that education. New Yorkers should still applaud their mayor for taking on this monumental task that states should have addressed years before this announcement because New York City isn’t alone in this failure, only one in four U.S. middle and high school principals report offering any computer science education in their schools.
The computing industry as a whole becomes more prosperous, exciting and attractive as an employment prospect each day. It spans a wide range of modern applications, as does my interest in the subject. I see computing science as a gateway into new realms of computing, where the highly challenging and demanding work may reap rewards of an equivalent level.
When I was in middle school, I had totally no idea of what Computer Science is, but I was pretty proficient in using computers at that age. The only thing that I knew about Computer Science is that one of my aunts is in that field and that’s all, nor of my parents are in that major. Not until in High School that I got the sense of what programming is like. I was taught basic simple codings and I really enjoyed it and thought that the class was actually quite fun. But the class didn’t give me any sense of the important real-world applications of Computer Science. Not until recently as I am in the Computer Science major, I started to really have the real idea and to gain real passion for the field. Computer Science is not all about programming.
Ever since I was little I was very intrigued with computers, it was always a mystery for me to think such a tiny box can do all these processes and then show on a screen. When I was about 10 years old my interest sparked greatly; I wanted to learn more about computers and how they work so, I went on YouTube and looked up how to build a computer. The video was very bad but I was glued to it. As the time past I learned more and more about computers and I started to love it. By the time I reached high school I knew how to build a computer but never had any real experience building one. luckily my school gave us a chance to take a computer class so i could have some hands on experience. Freshman year I couldn't take one but sophomore year I could.
